This story reminds me of an epic line from the movie
Apocalypse Now when Col. Kurtz gives some indications into what drove him mad over his many years in Vietnam:
“We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won’t allow them to write ‘F#&%’ on their airplanes … because it’s obscene!” LOL.

Washington had such a rule, and was deadly serious about enforcing it. Hard to argue with (eventual) success.
