In particular, in this case, I suggest you read Codevilla for some, IMHO, highly necessary broadening of the mind that is immediately relevant. There is a very great deal wrong with the world that is not communism. And
Some exposure to the history of political ideology wouldn’t go astray either. There are a vast number of good books out there, but some to start with include “Modern Times”, Paul Johnson, “The Birth of the Modern” (all this stuff started somewhere, after all), Johnson, and “The Conservative Mind”, Russell Kirk.
For an “instant” (if reading 11 fat volumes counts as instant) liberal education (not in the modern sense of liberal), far better than that of nearly all current kids with a Phd, go read Will and Ariel Durant’s “Story of Civilization” series. Yes I will require papers and there will be tests!
Education is not just a corrupt academic specialty, it is a mandate upon us, to learn, consider, speculate and discuss.
