(CNN)Migrants from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador spend $2.2 billion every year trying to reach the United States, and most of that money goes to smugglers, according to a new report.

The estimate of annual costs over the past five years, derived from surveys of thousands of households in those three Central American countries, paints a stark picture of the price of migration -- and who's profiting....

...On average, those surveyed reported that migrants who paid smugglers spent about $7,500, including the cost of food and travel in addition to smugglers' fees. Migrants who traveled on their own or in caravans spent an average of $2,900 and those who used regular immigration channels, such as student visas or refugee resettlement, spent $4,500....

... The vast majority (92%) surveyed said economic reasons were behind decisions to migrate.... In 2021, survey respondents in 43% of households said they were considering international migration....Nearly a third of households (29%) reported receiving money from migrants abroad

$3K to $7.5K is enough for any south american family to migrate to any south american country and be safe and find a job. But they can make that off US welfare in a month. And politicans wonder what the root causes are...

Yoo hoo, Kamala....in case you havent figured out “root causes” of migrant swarms at the border....

According to a new report, alien invaders from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador spend $2.2 billion ANNUALLY to reach the US, and most of it goes to human trafficers.......smugglers.

“Impoverished migrants” spent about $7,500, including the cost of food and travel....... in addition to hefty smugglers’ fees that double or triple the costs to get them pigging out at the US govt trough.

Where do they get all this money? Are their govts paying them to invade our country?

REALITY CHECK-—US foreign aid to these countries whining about poverty is astronomical. All of those govts depend on remittances coming in from their Nationals sucking up tax dollars.

So are we to believe that poor people from a countries that have average incomes of $2200, $4400, and $3650 annually can save 2-3 years income to get here?

I’m having a problem believing that!!! It is more likely that the Dem party or Soros (pretty much the same thing) are a more likely contributor.
