The Iroquois were a confederation of tribes. The English called them the Five Nations, comprising the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca (listed geographically from east to west. They didn't form this confederacy because of a fondness for drum &poetry recitation circles. They did it for war both defense and offense. The present hippie fascination for for Indians is an insult to Indians !

as to the “hippie” thing ...ain’t been a ‘hippie’ since the ‘70’s, so ya lost me there.

now, there are a lot of folks taking to’injun ways’ that ain’t ‘injun’, but out of respect, not because hollyweird sez its kewl.

i refer to the shamanic lifestyle, including their ‘medicine’. Even some Britishers on their island, have done so.

lastly, i, a mojave/white halfbreed, believe that at least some of these folks, are attempting to keep ‘the old ways’ alive, and not fade into nonexistence.
