There go most of the alternative news sources. I know they can link somewhere else but it’s not the same.

“””Twitter bans sharing images or videos of private individuals without their consent”””

If this is true, how does Twitter enforce it?

If this is true, doesn’t this make Twitter non-existent??

I absolutely prohibit my fiends from posting photos of me on their social media. If I accidentally end up in one, such as a group photo, I ask that my name is not posted.

Choosing to not participate in their narcissist ego trip is a reasonable request

Not really, IMHO. With everyone with a smartphone thinking they are Clark Kent shooting pictures instead of acting like a human, I’m glad they need consent to post pictures of individuals. I’m not sure that’s really censorship.

Expanding our private information policy to include media

Sharing private media
When we are notified by individuals depicted, or by an authorized representative, that they did not consent to having their private image or video shared, we will remove it. This policy is not applicable to media featuring public figures or individuals when media and accompanying Tweet text are shared in the public interest or add value to public discourse.

However, if the purpose of the dissemination of private images of public figures or individuals who are part of public conversations is to harass, intimidate, or use fear to silence them, we may remove the content in line with our policy against abusive behavior.. Similarly, private nude images of public individuals will continue to be actioned under our non-consensual nudity policy.

We recognize that there are instances where account holders may share images or videos of private individuals in an effort to help someone involved in a crisis situation, such as in the aftermath of a violent event, or as part of a newsworthy event due to public interest value, and this might outweigh the safety risks to a person.

We will always try to assess the context in which the content is shared and, in such cases, we may allow the images or videos to remain on the service. For instance, we would take into consideration whether the image is publicly available and/or is being covered by mainstream/traditional media (newspapers, TV channels, online news sites), or if a particular image and the accompanying tweet text adds value to the public discourse, is being shared in public interest, or is relevant to the community.

Feeling safe on Twitter is different for everyone, and our teams are constantly working to understand and address these needs. We know our work will never be done, and we will continue to invest in making our product and policies more robust and transparent to continue to earn the trust of the people using our service.

Enforcement is the key. Of course we know what at least one of the parameters will be.

I'm curious how they intend to enforce this.

If someone posts pictures without consent, then is a complaint made and eventually the post taken down? Isn't that like "locking the barn door after the horse has escaped?"

If anyone can register a complaint against any post, how can you head off abuse of this? What, post an image of a signed affidavit stating the other image is ok?

What about pictures in public places? If I take a picture of a neat sunset and there happens to be a couple of people in the foreground, do I have to chase after them and accost them for their written permission?

Yeah, private individuals should not be shared. Virtually all pols, movie stars, sports stars, criminals are not private individuals.

This is aimed at someone getting YOUR pic somewhere and posting it with images or memes.

I know a guy—Jack Murphy-—whose life was ruined when someone got a pic of him allegedly posing at a restaurant with one of the Proud Boys.

I think you are onto something:

This seems to be suidide for Twitter. Nobody can film a cop now? A football team on the field? All you can do is post poems paying homage to the dear leader? Is that all that is permissible now?

I can imagine some ANTIFA thug in a place like Wisconsin might swing a skateboard at the head of some kid. You can’t publish the thug’s picture without his consent. So that event never happened.

On the other hand, some kid in a place like Wisconsin might defend himself from a thug swinging a skateboard. If that kid takes action, everyone deserves to see his crimes — because that white supremacist just made himself a celebrity.
