Weren’t the mumps pretty much eradicated until they swung open the borders?
Have a son in Central America on mission. He’s vaxxed. Hope he doesn’t catch anything. Fighting Montezuma’s Revenge is bad enough down there.
MMR shot is mandatory, yet many do not receive the shot.
Two words for the mumps and every other supposedly wiped out disease that’s coming back:
Illegal aliens
I don’t think you are susceptible to contracting either mumps or chickenpox if you had them as a child. You can get shingles from the chickenpox virus that has been dormant in you since childhood.
I certainly hope you avoid shingles. My wife had it, and it was extremely painful. I neither oppose nor endorse the shingles vaccine.
Used to be that kids got the mumps, to be immune to the mumps, just like chicken pox.
That is what I suspect. We have over-vaxxed our population. Many of these childhood illnesses are deadly if you get it at maturity.
I remember having mumps and chickenpox as a child. No vax back then. In fact, I had the chickenpox ...twice! One of the rare events.
My mom brought over a friend’s kid who had chicken pox just so I would get it, and thereby become immune to smallpox. That’s the way it was done. I didn’t get a jab, and have had no problems with mumps or chicken pox since.
Please tell me you “smallpox” was a mental slip? Yes, natural immunity for chicken pox is very successful at preventing chicken pox. Unfortunately, you and I need to worry about SHINGLES.
I have a feeling that in countries where they don’t vaccinate against mumps, the virus was allowed to pass around and mutate to the point that it has evaded the traditional MMR vaccine, then those people jumped our borders and started to pass that sh!t around.
It’s more than fifty years old at this point, but I don’t trust the current pharma companies to update it. A virus can change a lot in 50 years if left alone.
I’ve had shingles. I was heavily immune sulpressed in high school, and got it all over my forearms. That sucked. It was about 3 weeks I had to have them wrapped up with a medicated cream. PE was a fvcking delight.
Me and a brother had the mumps as kids, it was not pleasant and we didn’t have the MMR, we had the MR version of the vaccine. My other brother had the MMR and never contracted the mumps.
If I go by the follow the science gang I guess that natural immunity for mumps is probably just a fallacy like natural immunity for covid.
Two thoughts on the increase numbers:
1) uncontrolled immigration by Bush, Obama and Biteme.
2) could the MMR vaccine given in the 1960’s-mid-1990’s which seems to have been an effective vaccine, have been changed in the late 90’s causing it to lose it’s effectiveness?
Why don’t you educate yourself instead of making accusations.
THE WORST COVER-UP IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD! VACCINATIONS ARE MONKEY BUSINESS!
Not true, in our family's case. Our oldest daughter had chickenpox, got hospital treatment and verified by a well-known doctor expert. A few years later, got infected with chickenpox again, and the same doctor expert again verified it - rather than be surprised, he said you can get it again. Our daughter had to suffer twice from chickenpox.
“ Unfortunately, you and I need to worry about SHINGLES.”
I had some bumps on my scalp. Dermatologist said it was shingles, but it wasn’t a big deal. My mother and brother both had shingles and it was a terrible ordeal for them. I could be wrong, but I thought having chicken pox provided immunity from smallpox. Perhaps it was cowpox they made the vaccine from. I believe I had that one, but it was a long time ago and I really don’t remember.
Yes, it’s not unknown for children to get chickenpox more than once. However, the poster to whom I was replying was wondering about contracting chickenpox as an adult after having had it as a child. I believe that this is rare. Shingles, not so rare.
Sorry your daughter had to go through that.
Then you’ve been lucky so far. My uncle had it so bad it pretty much killed him.
She's super-careful about her kids' health now as a parent herself. She went through a number of health issues as a kid compared to her siblings. She's particularly scared of her kids getting infected when outdoors, because of the covid pandemic. I feel bad for kids now, they don't have the freedom we enjoyed in earlier years.
Exactly.🤔
