I remember Denver's Union Station from years ago, and it was beautiful and grand, the way most stations used to be.

Drug addicts and freaks? This is why we can't have nice things.

I have no more sympathy for drug addicted bums. Ship them to some kind of interment camp where they won't bother decent people.

It is governments fault, by design many would add, to push the problems it is supposed to handle back down on the backs of the people. This is the case with crime, rioting, theft, homelessness, broken education, and just about any of societies ills today. It is left up to the people to fix these. Government is just in the way.

What a bunch of mealy-mouthed corporate crapspeak. They will do nothing while “expressing their concern.”

Hickenlooper’s restaurant is directly across the street. Funny how the decay began when the glorified bartender/owner left his establishment to enter politics.

““I had another operator tell me that she considers it a great day when nobody is seen smoking methamphetamine or using heroin on her bus”

Pro tip for libertarian conservatives and “government is the problem” Reaganites.

You won.

Now what?

"Union Station" is now the name for a large area, not one building. The old Union Station building has been renovated and turned into a hotel, shops and restaurants. It's a lovely place that attracts good crowds and is very safe.

RTD turned the area behind Union Station that used to be train tracks into its Downtown transit hub. AMTRACK, the DIA train, 16th St. Mall Shuttle, Light Rail and buses all use this hub, which is multilevel. This is the area the homeless have targeted. People have to use this hub if they want to use any of those transit options. Still, I would not go there after dark.

The homeless lobby have been relentless in getting judges to restrict law enforcement. They have targeted RTD's private security company. They have done everything they can to block anyone who wants to keep Downtown a safe destination.

Victor Davis Hanson nailed it yesterday in "Third Worldizing America."
In a medieval-type society of two rather than three classes, the rich in walled estates rarely worry that much about thievery. Crime is written off as an intramural problem of the poor, especially when the middle class is in decline or nonexistent.

Violent crime is now soaring in America. But two things are different about America’s new criminality.

One is the virtual impunity of it. Thieves now brazenly swarm a store, ransack, steal, and flee with the content without worry of arrest.

Second, the Left often justifies crime as a sort of righteous payback against a supposedly exploitative system.

Our society and nation are crumbling everywhere you look. It started in the big cities, has spread to the smaller cities, and is now bleeding into the suburbs (Portland, Los Angeles).

Denver was a pretty nice city in the late 70’s when I lived there. It’s turned into a craphole like every other RAT run city.
