JOHANNESBURG — Some South Africa hospital wards are jammed with patients infected with the omicron coronavirus variant as President Cyril Ramaphosa urged South Africans on Monday to get vaccinated.
In the past week, cases have reached more than 16,000, up dramatically from 2,300 last Monday, according to South Africa's National Institute for Communicable Diseases.
The NICD says the increase in cases in such a short period of time is “unprecedented” in the trajectory of the pandemic, now in its fourth phase in the country.
“Unfortunately, we’re seeing a more than doubling of hospital admissions each day,” said Ian Sanne, an infectious diseases specialist who serves on South Africa’s COVID-19 presidential advisory committee.

This looks increasingly like South Africa is managing the numbers to look “mild” so travel will re-open for them.
They are filling the hospitals with young people. They weren’t going to die vaxed or unvaxed.
What is the status of the 65+ group? Are they dying more often than with Delta? That is the only question of significance.
Announcing that you have a zillion cases who are not dying does NOT say Omicron is mild, when they are 90% young.
As of Friday, nobody had died from it. Anybody dead yet?

So all of a sudden the hospitals are full with a weak variant, i don’t believe a word of this.
How much of these hospitalizations are because of Omicron panic? We have read symptoms are mild so I suspect it is underlying conditions leading to the hospitalizations. People have mild symptoms get tested and because they fall into a higher risk category are then admitted.
Unless the samples are going to a lab for Gene Sequencing how does anybody know which variant they have.
Well our hospital had more deaths over this weekend than in the past two years. 12 died, 50 actually in the hospital and 9 in ICU.....so we’re getting hit with something.
The report said that Omicron was causing very mild symptoms and that patients were not coming to the hospital for treatment for COVID but other illnesses.
This is a mild variant by all descriptions.
Why would they be hospitalized at all?
Fear equals control.

The symptoms don't warrant hospitalization!
