Explain then, men who played football in the 1960s thru 80s and are still fine.

“Explain then, men who played football in the 1960s thru 80s and are still fine.”

I have been saying for years that the NCAA and the NFL are going to have to make the field longer and wider. The players are getting bigger, stronger, quicker and faster. That is my opinion because the injuries are more complex and more severe.

For example, when I first started watching football in the 50s, the longest field goal was 43 yards. Now it is 66 yards.

Now there are 300 pound men running the 40 yard dash in under 5 seconds.

I think that is why injuries are more severe now.

Just off the top of my head...

Mike Webster - All-Pro center for the Steelers. Diagnosed with CTE and suffered from dementia.
Dave Duerson - Pro Bowl safety. Killed himself. Post-mortem diagnosis of CTE.
Junior Seau - All-Pro Linebacker. Killed himself. Post-mortem diagnosis of CTE.
Jim McMahon - Super Bowl winning QB. Still alive, but suffering from the effects of his many concussions. He claims to not remember who his girlfriend is when he wakes up mornings next to her.

I do have to say… it appears to be mathematical. Watching old black and white games, good luck finding a 6’7” 295 pound player. Now they are the majority. When I watch how big these players are it’s a wonder they aren’t hurt more frequently. Mass and velocity. Could be the nasty food we eat, also. Epigenesis and my diet… not friends. But ice cream is my thing.
