I never understood why the left chose abortion as the hill they would die on.
The only reason abortion is a national issue is Roe V Wade. If they would have left the battle at the state level an equilibrium would have been established where some states allowed it and some did not.
I have believed for a long time that not only would Roe v Wade be overturned and eventually all abortions will be illegal. The issue is similar to slavery, some viewed it as a necessary evil while others viewed as just plan evil.

Exactly! And that was why the case was brought in the first place.
It is a lot cheaper and easier to fight a centralized issue than to fight (bring suit) in individual states. You can see the same tactic all through the federal government. EPA, “health care”, OSHA....just about *everything* the federal government has branched out into.
