Manchin is in the catbird seat. No way he gives that up. Would you? He is perhaps the most powerful Senator of all right now.

I’d encourage him to become a R just to get Schumer out of the Majority Leadership role. If he goes Independent he’s probably caucus with the D’s anyway so what good would that do. Now is the optimum time for him to switch, power-wise as after Nov. 2022 it should be a moot point as the R’s should take the senate anyway. None of which will do a lot of good unless they change leadership at the same time. Make Mitch a senior statesmen and let him fade into the woodwork!

If he switches he gets primaried out of office. If he continues with this ‘principled independent’ crap he’s got a chance of reelection

No, it would not be a good idea.

Why?

Because Manchin would then be yet another “secret Democrat” rather than a Democrat with scruples somewhat at occasionally odds with his current policies.

A better idea would be to have more dems like Joe Manchin.

The best idea would be to have a Republican beat Joe Manchin in the next election. For all of the talk about him and how conservative West Virginia is, that has not happened yet. Is that because of Joe, his previous opponents, or West Virginia voters?

It would be a good idea ... for McConnell.

For Manchin, I dunno. He's - in effect - running the country. Why would he want to give up that power to become just another one of McConnell's minions?

Mitch is far from perfect. His biggest flaw is that he sometimes gives in on important issues if he thinks it will hurt the GOP politically. He very rarely pushes members of the caucus to make votes that will damage them political unless it is a key issue, the vote is close, and he believes he can win.

But the truth is that he is fantastic at getting the most votes possible when he decides it is time to spend that political capital he has built within the caucus, despite the "Mitch is a traitor" label. Tons of Freepers were convinced he would cave on Garland. It was all just a big show, and the Turtle would roll over when it counted. But he didn't, and he sunk a crucial Democrat nomination..

Same folks were convinced he'd cave on Kavanaugh - he didn't, and successfully played full court press on squishy Susan Collins to keep the votes necessary for confirmation. And he held the caucus together for Barrett as well. Those were some of the most important votes of the last decade.

He has now held every single GOP vote - RINO's and all - firm against BBB. There isn't even a hint of any of them caving. That's actually pretty remarkable. And he's clearly wooing Manchin. If he does manage to peel Mansion away from the democrats, that is the end of the Biden legislative agenda. We won't be able to pass anything, but we will be able to stop the attempts to permanently rig elections in the Democrats favor. That may literally be the most important issue voted on by the Senate for decades, and the only thing standing between it and us is the Turtle holding together all 50 Republican senators.

And I'm betting on the Turtle, because this is exactly the type of fight for what he saves all of his ammo, and usually wins.

I agree. Plus why would Manchin switch? Now, he is the center of attention in every close vote in the Congress. He is the deciding vote.

If he switches, then he is just another RINO like Romney, etc.

He already votes like many of the republicans in the senate, Mitch is just trying to avoid losing the seat to a conservative.

He can’t be any more of a RINO than WV’s other senator, Shelley Moore Capito.

By who? He's got strong support in WV even from Republicans.

If he continues with this ‘principled independent’ crap he's got a chance of reelection

He just won reelection coupla years ago.

I cannot stand Mitch McConnell....but...I have long been advocating that Democrat, Senator, Joe Manchin switch political parties to join the Republican Party and end the insanity of the Biden, Harris, Pelosi, Hoyer, Schumer, scum & vermin pack of America Haters & Destroyers of the once great American Republic. Just remember folks if Manchin switches parties, the pubbies take over the Senate Politically immediately and the Biden nightmare disappears overnight.

Shucks Democrat, Joe Biden, that low life S.O.B. can take his “bitch”, wife, Jill, and, son, Hunter to China where they all belong...Traitors & Turncoats that they all are!!!

And Joe Manchin, you will forever be adored, respected, honored and loved by the American people for all eternity!!!
