The blast at a Texas oil refinery early Thursday will probably push already high gasoline prices even higher — although not immediately.
The blast and resulting fire at the ExxonMobil plant in the Houston-area city of Baytown, Texas, injured at least four workers. The accident could hamper output at one of America’s largest refineries for months, weighing on gasoline supply at at time when US refining capacity has already been reduced, said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for the Oil Price Information Service.
“They’re not going to have all systems go for a couple of quarters,” he said.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas now stands at $3.29, down 11 cents from a month ago, but still up $1.05 per gallon, or 47%, from a year ago. Gas prices have been a major factor in the rate of inflation hitting a 39-year high.
Kloza said he would not be surprised to see average prices rise to $4 a gallon in much of the country this spring and summer as the economy continues to recover and demand for gas increases. The limited supply of gasoline due to the loss of refining capacity in the United States and elsewhere will only help lift prices higher.
We’ve been there for a while now.
How convenient, just when they started to drop a few cents.
That will psh us over $5 in many locations, since we are almost there already.
Has the cause of the explosion been pinpointed?

Electric vehicles will allow the government greater control over peoples lives. They will just shut them off if they don’t like you. Or not let you charge.
Never understood the scam.
Reduction in crude oil and increase in Middle East production levels = “But don’t look for any lower gas prices at the pump. Lots of refinery and production and transportation factors mean it may take months for the finished gas to be available to you cheaper.”
One Mideast country in civil war , even maybe one with 4% of the world’s oil, or one pipeline goes offline means within hours the gas costs more at the pump. Even Biden talking about his quick plan to shut down the building completion plan for the pipeline meant , right away, oil price and actual pump price of gas went up.
$4? I wish. In SoCal we have been paying a few cents under $5.
Lowest cut-rate CPG in Glendale, CA (that I know of) has been $4.49 for weeks.
Easily over $5.00 at some stations, perps $6.00 also.

You can’t build or charge an electric vehicle without using oil:

30% of all oil use is non-fuel in nature. Then there’s that pesky jet fuel.
“... could help push gas prices over $4 a gallon.”
Huh? The price of premium is way over $4 now.

There’s no way a foreign adversary could be behind this!

Sure, kid. You obviously do not know or understand the petroleum industry. Hint Plastics come from petroleum. 98% of the products you own contain petroleum products. Moron.
What a wacked-out comment.
Enjoy your Nissan Leaf and its eight hour charge time.
The administration was doing just fine causing the rise in gas prices above $4 per gallon. They didn’t need any help.

How are you going to charge all those batteries to keep the
vehicles
moving? What will keep the chargers running both day and night?
There’s a good “evidence” link in my comment #10 above.
The thing I love is all the protestors with their pink, green, blue etc. hair. Hair dye is of course made from oil so I laugh every time I see them at their “Save the Planet” protests.
It will already control how long you can travel at a time - trips could have a lot of time added on to them due to have to stop to charge.
Which one are you counting? Iraq? Yemen? Syria? Israel? Iran? Saudi Arabia?
Yes, that is true that could be the intent. The laws of physics are not changed by DC liberals. The energy to move a 4,500 lb gasoline car is the same as the energy required to move a 4,500 lb electric car. The only difference is the energy delivery efficiency and cost. The tecnology is always changing, but the inefficiencies in each energy delivery step only seem to work for electric vehicles with coal powered electricity being the base generation method. When coal powered generation is gone we willall be taking the leftist utopia mass transportation. The government can then regulate all human movement, again a leftist utopia.
