Republicans:
Their only principle is to have no principles.
Their only strategy is preemptive surrender.
Their only plan for victory is to tick off their base as much as possible.
The Republican Party was formed to replace the Whigs because the Whigs would not take a stand on the major issues of the day. They did such a good job of replacing the Whigs that they have become the Whigs.
Well said. They replaced the Whigs entirely.
They have neither agreed nor declined to do so - the legislature has not even met as of yet. However, it is likely - with a map already this favorable to Republicans to have 5 out of 6 districts would not want to risk having a judge re-draw it. Probably would be best to redraw the 6th district to be more Republican - it is actually a swing district with it changing hands every few years - Andy Barr had a very close call in 2018.
Been saying this for a while, now. That's the only explanation for their inability to accomplish anything worthwhile - they simply aren't trying.
On a sort of related note, I would like to see the organizers of CPAC bar any GOP pols from speaking at that event (except for Trump). Having them speak is a waste of time since the GOP rarely follows through on any of the red meat that they throw around at CPAC. I think the focus of that event has to change to conservatives making plans for a future that may not include the GOP. Conservatives are the majority in the party, so we need to start holding their feet to the fire.
Yep. I’ve been using the term “uniparty” for about a decade.
My opinion, which I repeat here frequently, is that the political avenue is largely closed to conservatives. So why continue to beat our heads against that wall? Politics is a means to an end, not an end in itself.
Unfortunately conservatives will also continue their beaten-wife relationship with the gop. And will get hugely offended if you point out the bruises.
At the very least, invite representatives of other parties or of no particular party, whether or not Republican politicians are speaking.
They won’t, though. I think CPAC is part of Conservatism Inc.
