Not sure why you tagged me on this, given my only comment on this thread.

Others in that conversation had proposed repealing the amendments I listed. You seemed to be part of the conversation so I included you. No offense was meant.

You say that is if that would be a bad thing.

Because you all have done such a bang-up job to begin with?

DiogenesLamp wants to do away with the 14th and the 24th. I’m not sure why he skipped the 15th but a lot of what he says leaves me scratching my head. You want to do away with the 16th, 17th and 19th. So if you want to strip the vote from women and he’s determined to strip it from most other people and all who are left are white guys. Repeal the 26th and all you have are old white guys.

Define fight. Exactly how do you intend to “fight?” Posts on the Internet? Kamikaze attack on the White House?

“Define fight.”

you’ll have to use your own imagination for that one. Brought you to the water. Drink or don’t drink on your own.

So it’s guilt by association then - get the tar and pitchforks ready. Actually I even retracted for further analysis my somewhat flippant remark about the 19th but even stupid conservative women leave me wondering if Jack N. was right.

So you all want to get rid of the 14th, 16th, 19th, and 24th Amendments. Add in the 26th and the only people voting would be old white guys. You all would be in heaven.

The trouble with the 14th has nothing to do with it's citizenship aspects, but the latter portion of it which creates the "incorporation" doctrine and other abuses. Also I do not regard it as having passed through a legitimate process and so I consider it tainted though no one else does.

The 19th was just stupid and it has produced stupid results. Men may make mistakes, but adding in a lot more mistakes doesn't produce a better outcome.

Now your assertion regarding the 24th is interesting, because it is the amendment that does away with tax paying as a requirement for voting, and you say it would only leave old white men voting. Are you implying black people don't pay taxes?

I think you are just knee jerk on that one and didn't really bother to think it through before you said it.

As for the 26th, that was produced during the Vietnam War to allow cowards who didn't want to fight, to have more control over the political process. It was stupid and never should have been passed. I would accept the idea for 18 year old people in the armed services voting, but to give the vote to 18 year olds that don't fight?

No. Stupid idea. Also 21 is not "old."

The entire point was to allow people to get out of high school and live in the real world for a few years before they started voting, so that they would have an actual grasp of real life problems and would not do the knee jerk youthful liberalism that doesn't grasp taxes, work, responsibility and other more mature ideas.

Going back to the 19th, it wasn't that big of a problem initially because you still had the payment of taxes requirement and the 21 year age requirement to vote. This mitigated most of the bubbleheaded stupid women who are the primary problem with elections nowadays.

So allowing me the right to vote is a stupid mistake? Good to know.

Well maybe you specifically, but probably not other people like you. :)

If we still had the tax payment requirement, I wouldn't care what gender you were, because if you are paying taxes, you are both contributing and therefore have a right to say where your money goes, and you are also demonstrating sufficient competency to earn a living.

These are desired traits in a voter.

So if I buy a candy bar and pay a sales tax then I'm good to vote?

No. Federal Income taxes for Federal elections, and whatever passes for States income taxes for State elections. County taxes for county elections, and municipal taxes for municipal elections.

Skin in the game. No skin in the game, you shouldn't have a say over how the game is played.

All females not paying taxes. Also all males not paying taxes. Dumbest thing this nation ever did was separate the government from taxpayer oversight. That's when our budget deficits started growing uncontrollably.

Repeal the 19th Amendment as you are advocating and I can be banned from voting for any reason or no reason at all. Taxes have nothing to do with that.

Well this is true in a fashion, but as we were engaging in a "what if" debate, I thought I made it clear that if you simply required the payment of taxes to vote, then whomever pays taxes would get to vote.

I wouldn't care if it was women. If they are paying taxes, they are not only intelligent enough to listen to, but they are owed responsibility for their tax money being well spent.

They have skin in the game.

Also, 18 is too young to vote. A person needs to get out on their own and have to pay bills before they should be allowed to vote.

Also simply requiring the payment of taxes would alleviate this problem. If you are 18 and paying taxes, then you are likely to be someone with enough sense to steer the nation wisely.

Then let's keep the "what if's" straight, shall we. Repeal the 24th Amendment then yes, you can reimplement poll taxes, limit voter to those paying a some level of federal income taxes, whatever financial restrictions you want. But that is very different from your desire to also repeal the 19th Amendment which gave women the vote to begin with. An amendment you described as "just stupid and it has produced stupid results." So repeal that and I can be stripped of my right to vote by a body of men in the state legislature who believe the same as you do - just on the grounds that it was stupid to give me that right to begin with. At that point the amount of taxes I pay is irrelevant.
