ASHINGTON—The U.S. criminal investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol riot is entering a more contentious phase as it nears the one-year mark, with initial trials set to test the government’s strategy of using provisions first laid out in a 2002 financial-industry law to prosecute some accused...
...prosecutors searched for tools to elevate some of the cases beyond the misdemeanor charges often applied for unruly but far less momentous Capitol protests. They turned to a provision in the 2002 Sarbanes-Oxley Act, enacted after the accounting-fraud scandal and collapse of Enron, which imposes a potential 20-year sentence on those convicted of obstructing an “official proceeding.” The measure expanded what counts as obstruction and closed loopholes used by people involved in the Enron fraud.
Around 270 of the rioters face that felony charge, and some of them have coalesced around an effort to poke holes in that central element of the government’s strategy—with limited success to date.
Prosecutors have offered to drop additional charges for some of the rioters if they plead guilty to that count and accept a punishment that would likely involve more than three years in prison...

It’s been a year.
It was nothing.
This is dictatorship and political prisoners.
What REAL insurrection looked like:
October 6, 2018. “Protesters pound on doors of Supreme Court” (CNN) AND “Anti-Kavanaugh protesters bang on the doors of the Supreme ...” (CNN) AND “Protesters Swarm Door Of Supreme Court” (MSNBC) over Trump’s SCOTUS pick (Kavanugh).
THEN ON
October 12, 2020. “Photos: Protests At Amy Coney Barrett Supreme Court Hearing” (NPR) AND “Protest outside of SCOTUS building on final day of hearings” (WUSA9) over Trump’s SCOTUS pick (Barrett).
Prosecutors have offered to drop additional charges for some of the rioters if they plead guilty to that count and accept a punishment that would likely involve more than three years in prison...

The corrupt FBI wants these people to plead guilty because any trial would potentially expose the corrupt FBI’s efforts to instigate a riot.
The Democratic Party wants to intimidate us into not ever doing something like 1/6 ever again. They have the FBI, which is now the law enforcement agency of the Democratic Party.
The key to winning all of these cases is to implicate agents like Ray Epps and his accomplice who set up a honey trap before Trump rally attendees arrived at the Capitol building. It was entrapment. These cases are not prosecutable, and the agents should be charged.
We have given them our children our health. Then covid.. under Republican leadership , mask mandates, lockdowns, an experimental drug injected by at least 70 percent of Americans.
They are just getting warmed up.
They got republican led bumpstomk bans aka gun control
Jan 6th scared them to the core. Their stolen elections and their reactions mean this: there are more of us than them. This plandemic remains their one chance to erase evry form of opposition. They will rewrite laws and make examples of these folks to ensure we will obey. And 70% isnt going to do.
They have been working up to this since the scopes trial kabuki. And we.. obey.
If the FREAKIN prosecutors try to pull this bullsh!t the entire country will be gathering some tar and fethers for the “prosecutors.”
ENOUGH of this circus of a justice system. I am not an ostentatious person but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
Get that witch Cheyney on the hot seat ASAP.
SHE IS THE TROUBLE MAKER IMHO.
Why haven’t they killed these political prisoners in their solitary confinement?
Kind of rough for the FBI, some other sundry agencies, and certainly the media that they're identified more and more each day with a bumbling, inept "Administration" led by a senile old geezer who's become the laughingstock of the world.
I'm sure this isn't as cool as they thought being part of "the coup" would be.
How many times has Code Pinko alone “obstructed legal proceedings” in the House and Senate?
More than any of us here can count
Rupert Murdoch was as determined as Soros to oust Trump. his Wall St Journal reporter, Aruna Viswanatha, has a lot to say on C-Span about Jan 6, Oathkeepers, Proud Boys, sedition, etc etc. video plus transcript - expand her responses to read:
VIDEO: 55min: 2 Feb 2021: C-Span: Q&A on the U.S. Capitol Attack and Government response

This just teaches people to not surrender.
Who is Ray Epps ?
My first question is....how do the prosecutors know exactly what they were doing?
If I walk into a bank as it’s being robbed, can I be charged with bank robbery?
They say these people were in the Capitol. So were lots of others. Other than being in the Capitol, what exactly were they doing?
An arrest warrant has to state explicitly what they think the person was doing, with evidence/proof to back it up. Gonna be tough to do that without producing some video, I’m thinking.
One only has to look at the Republican members of Congress.
All but about 4 of them have shown any concern whatsoever for these people.
Lindsey Graham stated that he wished the Capitol PD would have used lethal force on more people. I have to wonder if he even knows what lethal force means.
Markwayne Mullin, a gem out of Oklahoma, comforted Lt Byrd, hugged him and said he did the right thing.
And, the people of their respective states have sent one back and will probably send the other one back. We have only ourselves to blame.
The people of South Carolina need to finally start paying attention to what a POS Graham is and demand his resignation.
16. Buy Linda a new dress and send her on her way back home!
This is looking more and more like FIB entrapment. These people have been denied basic constitutional rights. The people held under these charges are political prisoners.
This is outright tyranny.
“Pelosi’s Inquisition”
WOW!
Just listen to the tremendous uproar from congressional republicans fighting for
these political prisoners who are being tortured and abused in the democrat Gulag!
