Commentary

In a recent Washington Post op-ed, three retired generals, Paul Eaton, Antonio Taguba, and Steven Anderson warn of a supposedly impending coup should Donald Trump be elected in 2024.

The column seemed strangely timed to coincide with a storm of recent Democratic talking points that a reelected Trump, or even a Republican sweep of the 2022 midterms, would spell a virtual end of democracy.

Ironies abound.

From Election Day in 2020 to Inauguration Day 2021, we were told by the left that democracy was resilient and rightly rid the nation of Trump.

The hard left, for one of the rare times in U.S. history, was now in complete control of both houses of Congress and the presidency.

Spiking inflation, supply-chain shortages, near-record gas prices, open borders, the flight from Afghanistan, multitrillion-dollar deficits, and polarizing racial rhetoric all followed.

In response to these events, Joe Biden’s popularity utterly collapsed. His own cognitive challenges multiplied the unpopularity of his failed policies.

In reaction, the left again pivoted. It suddenly announced that should it lose congressional power in 2022 or the presidency in 2024, democracy was all but doomed.

Past few years have been a wild ride so far hasn’t it? I can’t tell what movie I’m watching half of the time or what seat I’m in.

I am now starting to understand why these people assert these things.

It is to get their true-believers so worked up that they will happily marshal along any form of felony voter fraud.

Democrats are burning down our cities and promoting open borders, narcotics drug trade, homelessness, and they’re talking about democracy?

Of course, we are rightly a republic, but these people are not too careful with their definitions.

They want a communist dictatorship in America. Anything which stands in the way of that, is “a threat to our democracy”.

So if Trump wins, who is going to perform the coup? Democrats?

It’s kinda hard to overthrow yourself...

"I can’t tell what movie I’m watching half of the time or what seat I’m in."

It seems to be a poorly produced mash-up in CGI of 1984, Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, and Brave New World and everybody got a seat at Front Row - Center.

If Donald Trump ever gets to be the President, we are doomed.

Voting to restore DJT back into the presidency would be insurrection dontcha know. Such an electoral outcome most certainly has to be the result of Russian misinformation. Surely, democrats and a select number of high ranking military officers will have to intervene to save America from Americans.

If that was a coup,

it was the weakest, worst, most ineffective coup in the history of mankind. Also the one with the most flags waving, smiles, and staying behind the velvet ropes coup ever.
