Finland likes to switch sides....or as he puts it...”Manuvers” to which ever side assists their own agenda.
Finland did what they had to do because the Western democracies wouldn’t help; in fact, they allied with one of the few monsters in history who killed more people than Hitler.
Our inactivity to raise a finger to fight communism as it reared its ugly head in Europe in the 20s and 30s permanently tarnished our reputation as “defenders of democracy”; populations instead had to turn to authoritarian/military governments to save them from the fate of Ukraine, eastern Poland, the Baltics, and eastern Finland. The Axis accomplished the impossible by uniting most of Europe against the USSR; they recruited nations that advocated democracy but faced communist takeovers (without any Western aid).
Britan and France went to war to defend Poland in 1939, but never declared war against Stalin as he took eastern Poland (and the other countries mentioned above); at the end of the war, ALL of Poland (along with the countries mentioned above) was ruled by Stalin - all Britain and France gained was the loss of their own empires as the colonized people saw both humiliated by smaller yellow men from Japan.
