Residents of quarantined Chinese city Xian have been desperately bartering electronics for food amid worsening fears of shortages and starvation.
It comes as Yuzhou, a city of 1.2million in central China, was locked down on Tuesday after just three asymptomatic Covid-19 cases were recorded.
Xian's 13 million residents have been confined to their homes since December 23 and are banned from leaving even for food and essential supplies, having to rely on local officials to drop off care packages.
But in recent days residents have taken to social media to voice concern over shortages, some said they were yet to receive aid from officials while others revealed they had resorted to bartering.
Photos and footage posted on Chinese social media site Weibo showed residents swapping a Nintendo Switch for instant noodles and steamed buns, cigarettes for a cabbage, sanitary pads for a small pile of vegetables and dishwashing liquid in exchange for apples.
State-media disputed the claims, posting pictures and footage of officials purporting to deliver bags of groceries to locked-down residents in December.

The reason is not the reason
if chinese says there are only 3 cases... and zero death ... then... they’re lying.
probably a new strain that will by pass our natural immunity.
thats why vaccine doesn’t work... and natural immunity is probably suspect... people do get flu multiple times from different stains.
the ccp probably have strains from alpha to omega waiting to unleash.
The reason involves a lack of reason on many levels—perhaps not all, but most.
The Chicoms are desperate to keep the global pandemic rolling. It has benefited them beyond their wildest imagination.
Or perhaps to prove to the country that they can do it.
I think that more likely than a desire to depopulate the world by 90%, and a large dose of stupidity and fear seem to me an important ingredient whatever the explanation.
Unfortunately China seems to be a trend setter at times. Perhaps this is a problem of being too logical.
1.2 billion to china is like 300,000 to the U.S. I can see SF going this far, and it is far larger proportionality.
It’s something more than Covid.
I trust the Chinese government almost as much as I trust Democrats.
Another reason to prep.
China, Australia, blue states. They all love control.
The real story here is that China is using the cover of Wuhan Flu to arrest and ‘disappear’ Muslims, Catholics, Falun Gong, and other dissidents.
Clean water would be aproblem.
What do the Chinese know about this virus and when did they know about it?
You may be right...but I think there’s another possibility.
We have one month until the Olympics in Beijing.
Think about it...China wants desperately to put their best face forward for the world to be lulled into a false sense of security that they’re the ‘good guys’.
They don’t want someone from these cities to be talking to the foreign press about how things really are. So, I think that the lockdowns will go on until after the Olympics and Paralympics are done.
Just a thought.

Only problem with that is the entire world hates them except the elites.
Also desperate to have the Olympics come off as planned.
Perhaps... But you know that the press is going to show a lot of fluff and feel good pieces to get the word out that the Chinese are everything except what the world knows them to be like. Many of the worlds sheeple may accept this.
I’m sure that is important to the but more important to them is that Covid has empowered leaders and power centers they OWN worldwide.
