Unlike Australia that routinely denies the vast majority of passport applications and holds their own citizens prisoner.
Defect means that you are switching allegiance. Its not necessarily about getting away from the USSR.
Don’t tell them. People think the Soviet Union is still there, because Rat media says so.
You still have to go through immigration control in leaving Russia, because your visa is checked to see if you are leaving on or before the valid end date: that’s how they prevent illegal immigration.
It’s a system that the US could use.
But never let facts get in the way of a bad preconception.
