The speaker of the Illinois House said the state’s child-welfare caseworkers need to be treated like frontline emergency responders after a Department of Children and Family Services investigator was killed last week during a home visit, the second such tragedy in four-and-a-half years.
Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch, a Hillside Democrat, was asked about the troubled agency during an interview Monday with The Associated Press, one of several sit-downs he had with Statehouse reporters to mark his first year in office.
Deidre Silas, an investigator who had just joined DCFS last summer, was stabbed to death Jan. 4 when she went to check on children in a home in Thayer, located south of Springfield.

Just send in more social workers.
- I want you to go into that house.
- No, not me!
- What do you mean, not me?
- Look, I do this part time, I didn't come here to get killed. He's probably just waitin' for us! What's wrong with you, Clinton?
Start with throwing offenders off of the taxpayers' dime. Stop paying them to sit around and commit crimes.
I have personally seen very evil people in the DCFS destroy families for no more reason than they can. Utah’s got so bad that it was put in receivership under a Federal Judge in the 1990s. The case workers would snatch children form homes on flimsy pretexts for no more reason than to fill the beds of the psych units. Disgusting. Several children died under criminal foster care and the foster parents skated.
100% of children taken from families were put on psych drugs and labeled mentally ill. As if it’s the children’s fault. Evil.
The ironic part was that most of the whistleblowers were college grads who were hired by DCFS and quit because they were so disgusted by the actions of these few evil monsters in the DCFS.
I can easily see some parent losing it when abused by these out-of-control agencies.
I love that scene.
Tough to destroy innocent families when you are sick.
