It is worth mentioning that the so-called paramilitaries are neo-Nazis with blood on their hands, recognized as terrorist organizations by the US Congress. They include the US Army deserters, wanted for multiple murders in the US, Ukraine refuses to extradict.

I grew up during the Cold War we used to actually play in bomb shelters they were everywhere at the time!! I grew up hating Russia however my views about Russia have changed, I HATE China with a passion, Russia NEVER infiltrated this country the way China has, during the Cold War we NEVER abandoned free speech, we NEVER closed churches or the country due to the Hong Kong Flu, we NEVER locked up US citizens as political prisoners for protesting, we NEVER gave up our most necessary products to be manufactured in Russia, we NEVER EVER let Russia have this kind of a hold over our republic, we are a HOSTAGE to China, we were NEVER a HOSTAGE to Russia!! We NEED a CLEAN BREAK from China clean and TOTAL BREAK!!
He wants to try as best he can restore the borders of Czarist Russia (several 100 years in the making!) - 1914 borders.
I think regaining Poland & Finland is not going to happen. Possibly gain the Baltic nations unless the figure out how to align themselves strongly with other Baltic powers like Poland, Finland, Sweden and others.
I still think NATO is obsolete. Its time for it to go, replace it with three European alliances - Atlantic, Baltic & Central Europe. We can be member in Atlantic and friendly observer in the others.

I just think it’s wrong to assume Putin was a big fan of the USSR, and of Communism.
He doesn’t throw history under the bus, as we seem so anxious to do in our country these days, with all of the statues being taken down. He’s not going to go around saying “Stalin Sucked!” or “The Czar Sucked!”. If the Czar was still in charge, he probably would have willingly served in the Okhrana, as opposed to the KGB.

I hated the Soviet Union, because of its communism. But, I do not hate Russia, especially historical Russia, because that would mean hating Tchaikovsky; Rachmaninoff; Prokofiev; Rimsky-Korsakov; Stravinksy; Tolstoy; Dostoevsky; Chekhov; Turgenev; Ayn Rand; Olga Korbut; and skaters too numerous to mention.
Russia has been a tough place for millennia, given its topography, vastness, and insular nature (which explains its historic paranoia). Much beauty has been produced by Russia. One thing you have to say about Russians: All of them, no matter their status or station, love Mother Russia, and will suffer great hardships for her. I wish I could say the same for all Americans.
Which does set up the interesting situation if Poland decides to take back L’wów and Western Ukraine, if the Russians move in to the Eastern part of Ukraine. Akin to what happened to Czechoslovakia in 1939 when Hitler moved in.
