I don’t understand how you can bring horses into a situation like that, and not have very predictable ‘accidents’.

At first, it looked like the horses were largely for intimidation. Apparently later, some hotheads decided to move through the crowd.

The horse was used by the police for crowd control; to intimidate people so they back off and disperse (something you never saw at a blm "peaceful protest") . There was little room the the horse or people to maneuver.
