U.S. women soccer players reached a landmark agreement with the sport’s American governing body to end a six-year legal battle over equal pay, a deal in which they are promised $24 million plus bonuses that match those of the men.
The U.S. Soccer Federation and the women announced a deal Tuesday that will have players split $22 million, about one-third of what they had sought in damages. The USSF also agreed to establish a fund with $2 million to benefit the players in their post-soccer careers and charitable efforts aimed at growing the sport for women.
The USSF committed to providing an equal rate of pay for the women’s and men’s national teams — including World Cup bonuses — subject to collective bargaining agreements with the unions that separately represent the women and men.
“For our generation, knowing that we’re going to leave the game in an exponentially better place than when we found it is everything,” 36-year-old midfielder Megan Rapinoe said during a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “That’s what it’s all about because, to be honest, there is no justice in all of this if we don’t make sure it never happens again.”
The settlement was a victory for the players, who sparked fans to chant “Equal Pay!” when they won their second straight title in France in 2019. And it was a success for USSF President Cindy Parlow Cone, a former player who became head of the federation in March 2020.
Cone replaced Carlos Cordeiro, who quit after the federation made a legal filing that claimed women had less physical ability and responsibility than male counterparts.

If women are equal, they should play the men.
This will be the death knell for women’s professional soccer.
Nobody pays to see women’s soccer; that is why they make so little.
Well, they did play against 15 year-old boys.
And lost. Oops. Pay them millions!
This got tossed out before - turns out the women were already being paid more than the men.
And we wonder why trannies get to compete with women.
Women athletes have a right to a percentage of their respective gate receipts. They don’t have a right to the gate receipts of men’s sports, sports in which they do not participate. Until this gets fixed, I predict that men will continue to be allowed to compete in women’s sports.

High school boys soccer teams beat them.
It’s so ridiculous. It’s one reason I laugh when that freak wins in swimming.

The new to undeserved wealth: have a gripe, sue everyone, ‘nough said, don’t want to get in trouble.
I think they made more than men in the usa, but were paid less.
I was checking out at office max once and a famous crazy woman goalie at the other checkout lane was starring at me with one eye while using the other to sign her receipt.
It was very freaky.
The value of sporting team is how many people watch the events.
Sorry ladies, your value in that particular event is less. Your value performing “Swan Lake” (the most elegant ballerina performance of all) can not be matched and never will be matched by a man or a man that becomes transgendered or what ever they call themselves today.

My flight instructor many years ago, circa 1979, ago was a lovely lady. I valued her skills as a very adept instructor. Apparently Southwest Airlines valued her skills also. She retired a couple of years ago a very senior captain and training instructor. She was paid very well for her skills.

They did. A bunch of teenagers. Real teenagers. Not 19yr olds.
They lost.
And one of the boys was young. Like 12 or 13 young.
Hope their Ill gotten gains bring them a huge dose of karma with it.
Exactly. It draws nowhere near the fans and nowhere near the money. Women’s college basketball was pretty much ignored until Pat Summit brought them to a level where people wanted to watch them.
They are stealing from men’s soccer which generates much more income.
