"Well, I'm not sure he would have done much of anything, frankly," Bolton said in an interview with Vice published March 1, responding to a question about what Trump might have done had Russia attacked Ukraine while he was president.
"But you never know with Trump. It depends on what time of day it is, it depends on what he thought his political benefit would be at any given moment. I don't think ultimately he would have stood in Putin's way," Bolton told Vice.
Bolton said he thought Trump's glorification of Putin was "embarrassing for the United States." He also said that he did not think that Trump cared about Ukraine in the first place.
"It's hard for me to describe how little he knows," Bolton said in the interview with Vice.
"When you're operating on such a poor understanding of the circumstances you're talking about, ultimately, your opinions have to be totally unsound," Bolton added. "And ultimately reality triumphs, and these opinions are seen for the flimsy and twisted thoughts that they really are."
In the same interview, Bolton criticized Trump for his lack of understanding of "what the stakes were in Ukraine."

Good lord. The cockroach speaks.
Like when Obama did nothing when Russia invaded Ukraine and Georgia?
Putin’s Russia is bad, and yet the very people supposedly condemning Russia are the ones behaving like lying Putin cronies the most. (Case and point.)
Trump wouldn’t have done anything because he wouldn’t have needed to. The invasion wouldn’t have happened.
Hey John, how did that book of yours do. BWAHAHAHAHA!
SHut up, John. How does it feel to have burnt bridges for both parties? The Left never liked you and now most the Right doesn’t trust you. Happy now?
Give the arse hole a break. He bought 3 copies.
Shaddup walrus!
These RINO clowns don’t have a clue how much the American people hate them. Republicants are in real trouble because not only do 100% of the Democrats hate them but 60% of Republicans are ready to wreak vengeance upon them in the primaries.
For his mother.
How stupid I feel to have ever thought Bolton was sane.
I like Donald Trump, but he picked some real losers to “serve” him.
Bolton is a seething little rat bastard.
There was a time when I considered him to be a pretty level
headed guy. Today he is miffed beyond comprehension because
he couldn’t ruin Trump, in payback.
Here he just stoops to being insulting, not grasping at all
that many people think Trump was perhaps one of the very few
best presidents we have had.
He stuck to his campaign promises, and did his best to see
them implemented. He was a fighter, appealing anything
that blocked him fulfilling his promises.
He loved our nation. He may not be an ideal man by some
standards, but I can tell you he is the best we’ve had
since Reagan, and in some ways he was more of a fighter
than Reagan.
No man is going to be perfect. I don’t like a lot of his
appointments and nominations. I think he did the best he
could with literally everyone in Washington, D. C. and
beyond doing their worst to stop him.
The swamp was much deeper than a swamp. It was a friggen
tributary. He had Republicans suggesting people who were
knowingly going to set up roadblocks to Trump’s (our)
agenda. Many of those got blamed on Trump, because
people think he is responsible for everything.
If I were in the White House slecting people for staff, I
can tell you they’d slip some ringers in on me too. The
deep state folks would do that to any of us.
I will always appreciate Trump for what he tried to do.
And the thanks the man got, was for his own party leaders
to assess him a liar when he said the election was stolen.
I absolutely loathe a number of our Republican leaders,
and how they tried to screw us through Trump.
Bolton was one of the least effective people that were
trying to harm Trump.
Poor little inconsequential looser...
Russia wouldn’t have invaded. So its all moot
The left is pretending to like Bolton right now as a means to attack Trump. The only real friends Bolton may have left are at The Lincoln Project.
Exactly, from when Trump took office in January 2017 to January 2020, the world was was in economic prosperity and in diplomatic peace, the CCP virus turned the world upside down.
We don’t need to speculate. Putin invaded when he saw weakness in Biden, not in President Trump.
Idiot neo-con. There would have been no invasion while Trump was in office!
Biden didn’t just let it happen either. He instigated it.
Well said.
I don’t know if Trump had much choice.
Which is why if he does run again, I want to know who his team will be before the election.
