Hopefully, Texas with the third highest property taxes in the nation, will follow suit.

Texas’ real sales tax is 8.25%. Cities, counties and such add on another 2% to the state tax.

We already have a sales tax of 8.5% in Texas. Property taxes are through the roof!

When I retire I have my eye on Tennessee. Low property tax and low sales tax.

It’s nice they put it to the voters. A legislator cannot promise one thing and not deliver. Like the initiative process in Calif. I guess. Otherwise there’s no representative government. Vote them in and they do what they want. Put your kid in the public school and they’re not yours for the day.

Right? Texas, supposedly the conservative bastion hasn’t been able to rid us of these punitive property taxes for decades.

What a hoot. Pay off your home mortgage and the state still owns your home.

My thoughts exactly. $3600 a year for property taxes on my $175,000 home is just too big a bite in the butt.

Could be worse though. I could live in California.

You maybe want to read further. The bulk of property tax as it is in Texas goes to fund the school system and in Idaho *they will continue to have a property tax for that*.

So, small property tax reduction, large sales tax increase so you’re likely to actually pay more overall. SURPRISE!

The real question is why people cannot seem to get control of school spending.

My wife was educated in eastern Europe in the 70s with only books and a blackboard and got an excellent education, and probably far less Communist indoctrination than American kids get now.

Time to go back to limited government. When 50% or more of our earnings go to government, it’s no longer a tax its slavery lite. First off, property taxes should be abolished along with government propaganda centers aka schools. FICA should also be abolished as it was never meant to be as it is... Idiot Woodrow Wilson implemented that crap. A flat state tax and a sales tax should be all we pay. The rest is theft...

Here’s why they probably won’t, as won’t they crooks on Georgia.

They will no longer be able to make arbitrary decisions on your homes “value” when they need money and tell you that your home amazingly increased in value by 30% in one year.

Isn’t this nothing more than the National Sales tax or Ck sumptuous tax that has been talked about for years? The city councils and county commissions give up lots of power or have it taken from them, with a move like this. Which is a good thing.
