On March 10, 2022, one hour after the Alabama legislature sent her House Bill 272, Governor Kay Ivey signed Constitutional Carry into law.
The bill will become effective on January 1, 2023. Alabama has joined 21 other states in the Constitutional Carry club, increasing the number to 22.
MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey on Thursday signed House Bill 272, known as the constitutional carry bill, into law, defending law abiding Alabamians’ Second Amendment rights.
“Unlike states who are doing everything in their power to make it harder for law abiding citizens, Alabama is reaffirming our commitment to defending our Second Amendment rights,” said Governor Ivey. “I have always stood up for the rights of law abiding gunowners, and I am proud to do that again today.”
HB272, sponsored by Rep. Shane Stringer (R – HD102), revises certain restrictions regarding the carrying or possession of a pistol and eliminates the requirement to obtain a pistol permit in order to carry a concealed pistol.

Representative Shane Stringer has worked for years to obtain the passage of Constitutional Carry. For Stringer, it is a matter of principle. He has suffered for his principles. On May 14, 2021, Shane Stringer was fired from his position as a Captain in the Mobile County Sheriff’s department, because of his support for Constitutional Carry as a State representative.
From a previous AmmoLand News article:
From Representative Shane Stringer’s press release (for those who have difficulty reading the image):
State Rep. Shane Stringer (R – Mobile) said on Friday that he is proud to stand in defense of the Second Amendment gun rights of Alabamians despite being fired by

May the Sheriff's department brass who fired him for supporting citizens' rights be removed from their jobs and denied their pensions.
He is a very popular sheriff, I understand.
That is a great graphic and quickly informs on the progress of Constitutional carry. Thank you for posting!
Ohio is on the cusp of passage, and our feckless Governor DeWine is in a political fight this election year, so he’s indicated he’ll sign it into law if our legislature can get it to him! I pray they do.
Just for general information, the sheriff is very popular. Despite his opposition to this bill he would have won again (without my vote) but he is retiring this year, as is the DA who also publicly opposed the bill. I’m not sure where their successors stand, but it’s a moot point now. Shane Stringer is my state rep.
Now to get deWhine to sign the bill for Ohio.!!
Meanwhile, GOP-e goofballs are blocking such legislation in the Florida legislature.
Constitutional Carry was passed and sent to deWhiner over a week ago. He’s been dithering over whether he’ll sign it, despite his promises.
Good news, if he doesn’t veto it by the 15th, it becomes law without his signature.

Really? So he would need to veto it tomorrow, or it becomes law on Wednesday?
It’s an election year, he WILL NOT veto that.
Where are the Democrat plants who were on here declaring that “Da RUNos never will paz dis” and “Muh, RuNO Ivey will neva sin Dis.”
Going from “shall issue” to Constitutional is not that big a deal.
What’s REALLY needed is “stand your ground”, castle doctrine, and other protections for the citizen who finds himself having to fire to protect his life or property.
Congratulations in any event!

I’d be very much happier to see a few of the eight remaining may-issue states go shall-issue than to see another state go constitutional carry.
But I can’t see that’s going to happen without a SCOTUS decision.
That said, every state that goes shall-issue or constitutional carry without issues is another proof that may-issue fails strict scrutiny.
From what I have read, he will have to veto it by midnight on Tuesday, March 15th, or it becomes law without his signature.
Very cool... However, may be meaningless as far as the feds are concerned due to the idiot unConstitutional pre-emption clause in the latest spending bill...
I don’t think he has the BALLS to sign it. His 10 day window to sign ends on the 16th or 17th assuming he got the Bill on the 3rd. If he does NOTHING, after 10 days it becomes law.
Specifically, Senator Wilton Simpson!
Call him @ (850) 487-5010 and give him, politely, a piece of your mind!
Can you travel into another state that also has CC? Or do you need a carry permit?
