WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Forty-nine of the 50 Republican U.S. senators said on Monday they will not back an emerging new nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, underscoring their party's opposition to attempts to revive a 2015 accord amid fears talks might collapse.

They pledged to do everything in their power to reverse an agreement that does not "completely block" Iran's ability to develop a nuclear weapon, constrain its ballistic missile program and "confront Iran's support for terrorism."

Tehran denies it has ever sought atomic bombs.

Senator Rand Paul was the only Republican member of the Senate who did not sign Monday's statement. In an emailed statement, he said: “Condemning a deal that is not yet formulated is akin to condemning diplomacy itself, not a very thoughtful position."

Good! Putin and Biden are pushing this deal.

Who says it’s a treaty? Doesn’t even need 51.

Their opinion doesn’t count.

Posturing to make it appear as if we have an opposition party.

Who says it’s a treaty?

John Roberts says it's a tax, so it's all good.

Good grief guys! Read the contents of the deal. No US citizen should back the deal regardless of party as it gives the Iranians free reign over long range missile development, no checks on the development of a nuclear bomb, and no inspections on either, plus lifting sanctions on a Terrorist-supporting state. What does the US get in return? Bupkis...nada...nothing. What the hell is Biden thinking? He is not making it a Treaty because he knows Congress would never support it. The guys is nuts!

So we can seize yachts of Russians, but have to give back Billions to Iran. Got it.

China Mitch got Obama’s Iran deal through the Senate. I wouldn’t expect much different here.

“So we can seize yachts of Russians, but have to give back Billions to Iran. Got it.”

We should just give Iran the yachts.

“Senator Rand Paul was the only Republican member of the Senate who did not sign Monday’s statement.”

Foreign policy is Rand Paul’s greatest strength and his greatest weakness.

This is not a treaty and, like last time, the executive branch will sign off on the ultimate agreement to give away the store. Iran will take the goodies, and enrich uranium on military sites that are not subject to inspection. It’s a no brainer for the mullahs, Kin Sung Il will then fire off a few test missiles near Japan to get His Weakness’ attention and want His Weakness to offer up an Iranian type swag bag as well

Exactly. Obama basically circumvented the constitutional requirement for Senate ratification by declaring that it was not a treaty, even though it was.

Of course you live by the sword you die by the sword and thus Trump could immediately rescind the executive orders that implemented the deal.

There are some benefit to consulting key Senators of both parties to secure ratification but that’s not the Democrat way anymore. Damn the torpedoes and steamroll the opposition.

Exactly. The entire senate is involved in violating the constitution. Just like the first ‘treaty’ with iran that violated the 2/3.
