In the northern part of the country in winter, the sun will come up at 9:00 AM and set at 5:00 PM. Children everywhere will go to school each morning in the dark.
Daylight savings time should be abolished, not institutionalized.
Same here in Michigan. By looking strictly at a globe split into 24 equal segments, Michigan (and maybe Kentucky) should legitimately be in the Central Time Zone, not Eastern. (A small swath of Michigan's Upper Peninsula that abuts Wisconsin is in the Central Time Zone.)
Yep, it’s not like “you get an extra hour of daylight”.
“There’s only so many hours in a day” and whenever I’ve been self employed, I hardly paid attention to the clock. I tend to wake up at daybreak or shortly before and I go to bed when I’m tired.
I went to school in the dark...................
Shouldn’t it be STANDARD time that is permanent? Isn’t that why it’s CALLED “STANDARD”?
Standard because it’s bassed on the highest and lowest points from the equator. 12:00 means sun is highest at noon and “lowest” are furthest from equator at midnight.
Actually this kind of miffs me. “Savings” would mean our high point is at 1:00 pm.
“..The measure still needs approval from the U.S. House of Representatives and the backing of President Joe Biden...”
Whatever is best for the American People, rest assured, the domestic communists will vote it down.
Way things are going they might as well call it “War Time”.
Pic one and stick with it. This is ridiculous. If you want more morning light, wake up earlier. If you want more evening daylight, stay up later. Me, I’m NOT a morning person. In fact, I sleep through them. But I stay up until 3 or 4. If I were a democrat I would force the entire population to live exactly like I do.
“Daylight Savings Time” never made any sense. Even the name is nonsensical. You have the same number of hours of daylight on each calendar day of the year regardless of what puny humans do with their clocks. Nobody ever “saved” a single hour of daylight.
I cannot imagine what justifications were made for this when it was first introduced. I’ve heard stories about farmers and school children, but both of them seem to have been “debunked.” (that’s a word I now HATE)
Seems nothing is standard anymore.
There was a time before light became easier to produce in early American agrarian when Daylight Saving Time made sense.
ummm no. a clock to a farmer is a relative tool since their clocks are the sun, the milking cycle and the seasons...
gt rid of it, but don’t blame it on them
That makes the most sense. But we are talking US Senate here. Sense rarely prevails.
And apparently we are no longer a nation of early risers.
In MI it doesn’t get black dark in summer until nearly 11:00 pm.
Yup!
I also would have preferred the opposite. I see no reason for it to be daylight when it is supposed to be night time (or at least evening). Here in Texas it is daylight to at least 9:00 P.M. during DST. However, it does need to be one or the other. I have a difficult time adjusting to the change.
I say we set the clocks “back” both in the spring and fall.
I need extra hours. No more springing forward.
Louisville is on the eastern time zone because GE, once the largest employer in the state, wanted to be on the same time zone as their corporate office in NY. At least that’s what I’ve always been told.
Actually blaming “agrarian” is wrong. In fact farmers DON’T like it.
This started after WWI and the idea of saving energy (greenies oughta love this) by needing artificial light even less.
Didn’t get “permanent” until the ‘30s, of course.
Good. I am going to contact my rep and the dunderhead-in-chief about this.
