Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has acknowledged that Ukraine will not become a Nato member, in a significant concession on a day when Kyiv was pounded by Russian shells and missiles and the invading force tightened its grip on the capital.

At least five people were killed in the latest artillery barrage on Kyiv, prompting its city hall to impose a 35-hour curfew from Tuesday night amid further signs that the focus of the Russian campaign has shifted to the destruction of residential areas and civilian infrastructure.

Zelenskiy made his remarks about Nato while addressing leaders from the new Joint Expeditionary Force, a UK-led initiative bringing together 10 north Atlantic countries to create a capability for responding rapidly to crises

Cameltoe says they’re in NATO already and they’re winning the war? Is he suffering sleep deprivation or drunk or something? Something here is messed up. Wait! Maybe everything here is messed up.

IIRC/AFAIK, all three major European treaty organizations, NATO, CSTO, and the EU have clauses not allowing countries at war to join them.

Ukraine's admission into NATO will start World War III immediately.

Aah! Jeez! He’ll keep going till, well for a long time. This could be like your golfing buddy Harry dropping dead on the ninth hole. It’s hit the ball and drag Harry to the eighteenth hole.

I’d still support a cocaine addict over a war criminal any day.

NATO may be united - howbe it Ungary, urkey and a few others want to be neutral - but what have they actually done for Ukraine besides raising their hopes of membership for years and years. All this feel good stuff they’re putting out there, the videos of meeting, Zelensky’s quick takes etc. has done absolutley nothing for the Ukraianians on the ground fighting and suffering thru this conflict.

I don’t agree that it’s not news. He’s now very publicly agreed to one of the Russian’s main demands. Then this morning the Russian’s are saying concrete progress has been made in peace negotiations. Hopefully this mess will be over soon. The biggest issue is face saving on both sides. Then of course we’ll give the Ukraine another 20 billion to help rebuild they’re country.

Well I mean, when it comes down to it being a NATO member is just semantics anyway. You have countries like Finland and Sweden that aren't NATO members but the coordinate their defense with NATO, host NATO troops in their countries and conduct joint military exercises with NATO.

I could see Zelensky agreeing to not join NATO as a fig leaf toward Russia, maybe if Russia is looking for an excuse to end the war, they might even accept it. Declare victory and end the war.

However, the very next day Zelensky could sign a mutual defense pact with the EU/US/UK. Call it the Ukraine Defense Initiative and invite NATO troops into the country. Technically they would have kept their promise to not "join" NATO but the result would be virtually the same as if they did.

Then again, I'm sure Putin and Russia realize this as well, which is why they want a puppet government installed so Ukraine won't turn around and do something like this as soon as they leave.

Not news, presented as news, they never were, as if this is some kind of concession.

Now, concede Crimea is part of Russia and that the DPR and LPR are independent states and end the war.
