MEXICO CITY (AP) — The United States authorized the departure of families and some personnel Wednesday at the U.S. consulate in the Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo.
The move came after drug cartel gunmen fired at the U.S. consulate building in Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas, during Sunday night.
“The Department of State authorized the departure of non-emergency U.S. government personnel and eligible family members from the U.S. Consulate General in Nuevo Laredo due to security conditions,” a department statement said.
“As of March 15, the Department of State is not able to offer routine consular services from the U.S. Consulate General in Nuevo Laredo,” it continued. “U.S. citizens wishing to depart Nuevo Laredo should monitor local news and announcements and only do so when considered safe during daylight hours.”
The department also advised U.S. citizens not to travel to Tamaulipas, the state where Nuevo Laredo is located, citing crime and safety concerns.

Mexico is a failed Narco State at best. Their level of corruption is rivaled only in Columbia.
The Mexican drug lords have the government on the ropes and everyone knows it.
In 2009 a Mexican Marine was killed on a raid that killed a top cartel member in Tabasco. In revenge the cartel killed the entire family of the dead Marine the day after his funeral.

You might as well put them under the command of the cartels. If you thought Afghanistan was a mess Mexico would be 1000 times worse. Then we would have cartel gunmen and MS-13 gunning down families left and right.
Best to level everything south of the Rio Grande for five miles south, from the Gulf to the Pacific.
Turn it into a free fire zone.
Anything that moves dies.

US SOF can certainly kill the cartels. They’re pathetic compared to what our SOF have faced.
How to work out control between the sovereign Mexicans and the US SOF is certainly a problem.
One solution would be a national Mexican election on that specific issue.
My belief is that the problem is not that Mexico is too corrupted, but that the US will not pay for this. No US political donors would benefit from it.

The corruption is systemic and from the top down.
To understand the corruption south of the Rio Grande you have to go back to the colonial era.
The English Empire lasted as long as it did because they exported their culture along with their trade goods. A post office in the American colonies, India, Australia, wherever looked the same as one did in London. They carried their language and laws as well as sports. Cricket is huge everywhere England held power.
To a lesser degree the French did much the same.
Where ever the Spanish went they went only for gold and riches. They adventurers were after gold, silver and fame for themselves, not Spain. Those adventurers took their personal graft and corruption with them. It still rules to some degree everywhere Spain planted the flag.
In Mexico you have white Europeans as the ruling class with the natives a permanent underclass. The only way to change that is with force, human nature being what it is.
The same goes for just about every Central and South American country.
It is what it is.
