Which is exactly why I don’t believe Syria will supply 40,000 mercenaries to join Russia.

They know what Russia did to their cities. They’re more likely to join with Ukrainian forces and go after Russia for revenge.

It would be even less successful than Putin’s sending prisoners to the front.

Dictator Assad has still more that 40,000 that keep his brutal regime going... to say the least.

BTW, re Arab on Arab Massacres:
His father moaned down 20,000 in Hama in the 1980s...

In Syria it was either Assad, Al Nusra or Isis. One was the lesser of 3 evils unfortunately. I think Israel even recognises this behind the scenes. Very rough neighbourhood

My guess is these mercs are Alawites and Druze who are basically non-Muslims (despite Bashar’s dad bribing a tame imam to upgrade their status from heretic to just as good as any other Muslim). In Syria, they’re fighting for their lives and their homes against Sunni Arab extremists who want to decapitate them because they’re heretics.

In Ukraine, the problem is motivation. The burn rate in Ukraine is huge. Why are they even there? The money might be good, but you can’t take it with you after you’re KIA. In just 3 weeks, Russian casualties in Ukraine are 25x the number in 6-1/2 years of Russian operations in Syria, if you assume the conservative US estimate of 7000 Russian KIA in Ukraine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Armed_Forces_casualties_in_Syria

They’ll show up in Ukraine and run for the EU border to get refugee status.

I doubt Assad will send the terrorists he was fighting to Ukraine, as the majority of Syrians actually do support him (as best as I can tell), so there are still plenty at his disposal.

The war there was another Obama/Hillary creation with the media running the same type of propaganda blitz as we see in Ukraine.

We didn’t make people suffer in our wars, just nuking and firebombing.

Exactly. None of the players in the Syrian debacle had clean hands, including the USA with it false flaggers alleging chemical warfare. At least Assad (the son) kept the Christians alive and is keeping the peace now with his neighbors.

Russia is popular in Syria, just not with the US sponsored "moderate rebels".

What a load of crap. Russia has caused far less damage to the infrastructure of Ukrainian, especially in major cities like Kiev, than we did in Iraq or Afghanistan. They have even kept the internet and cell phone towers up and running.
