I have an old friend that has been transitioning. I met him as a man. He went through abusive relationship after abusive relationship and gave up. When he started to transition he met and got engaged to a man who was more of the same. Abusive and treated him as a fetish. And yet he continued to pursue the transition rather than repair the damage that lead him to destructive relationships and self-hatred. He relocated back home to his parents which was probably a good move. All said, I expect he will not find happiness in the transition. At first he felt the hormones were helping him feel more himself but that buzz didn’t last. He will never be a woman but so hates the male version of himself he cannot mentally handle going back to life as a male, gay or otherwise. It’s a sad situation to see someone truly broken down from their treatment by other human beings.
I’ve also met women living as men, one socially and one at work. I know one of them had a physically abusive relationship with their father and was presenting as a gay man. The other one was getting a divorce because she felt like a fraud in her straight marriage to her childhood sweetheart. I found that interesting.
Even with my experiences, I know these women and men are biologically different from the gender identities they pursue. That is the science. That is truth. Biological men have no business competing against women in women’s sports. The advantage is fundamentally unfair and no hormones will overcome it. How they feel about themselves does not remove the facts. It’s not any different than doping. We must not be so willing to indulge narcissists in their fantasies.
Maybe one day in the far flung future their DNA can be rewritten so they are true to their gender identity. But that day has not come. The “pregnant man” from several years ago was never a male, however he presented himself to the world. But, with different meaning, there are also plenty of XY males that are not Men.
