Delaware officials say they are planning to send $300 in direct payments to taxpayers in the state.

News outlets reported Thursday that the payments are part of the state's plan for using a $1 billion budget surplus at a time when inflation is rising and gas prices also are high. Lawmakers said they will introduce legislation within a week. A vote could happen next month.

Officials say more than 600,000 Delaware residents are likely to receive these payments, which will cost $186.6 million.

Great news serfs. Your state government confiscated a billion more dollars than necessary so you are going to get 186 million back ($300 per tax payer).

If it was a bad idea to begin with why is it so generally acceptable now?

Now state governments giving money.

If this is the plan, why don’t they just start reduce the taxes. But I know that answer.

If the federal govt can give away money, it is a good idea for the states to do likewise.

How about cutting taxes instead? Oh never mind, that doesn’t set up being “addicted to government”.

The government is awash in tax dollars. They really need to cut taxes significantly.

So if everyone all of a sudden has $300 extra to spend on gas, I guess gas prices will go......?

I expect to see a wave of these election year “free money” payments in most states, along with, perhaps a federal suspension of the gas tax (to be reinstated in December, of course.)

And the media will remind the sheeple on a daily basis how great things are going, thanks to the government.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to abolish the taxes altogether?

I’ll bet there are places in Delaware where $186.6 million would make nice long-term road improvements for many drivers instead of more short-term beer money.

Many states are awash in Federal “quantitative easing” $$ dished out in the name of Corona pandemic relief, which, of course, wasn’t well-regulated for proper use.
