Yup. My late mother-in-law passed away four years ago at the age of 97. Her husband had been a Marine in WW2. He survived Saipan and Iwo Jima. He always referred to the Japanese as “Japs’’ but as I far as I'm concerned he more than earned the right to do so,

My mother-in-law always referred to Asians as “Orientals’’.

I referred to east Asians as Orientals until like 15 years ago, when I posted somewhere and someone said not to do that because Orientals were rugs. I still don’t see the issue with it.
