Anything you are hearing from the war is propaganda from one side or the other. It’s beyond insane that people think they are being told the truth, by either side.

We got a peek during the recent war in Armenia, where the Azeris made effective use of Turkish drones. Now those same drones have been making mincemeat of Soviet equipment.

Then as the Donbass and land bridge began to fall and get surrounded, that force pulled back.

Hey Jack, I’m not saying the war is over. But I am saying that the intention of those northern columns was to take Kiev. They failed. That is a defeat on the battle level. All that self-propelled artillery they left behind show a less than orderly retreat too.
Sure, brilliant Putin strategy, send half your force toward Kyiv and Chernihiv and then retreat leaving stuck and destroyed vehicles. Wonderful, you caused panic in Kyiv. Have not seen ONE military analyst that said this was brilliant, instead all said it was stupid and the result was a logistic nightmare for Russia. If Putin had sent everything immediately towards Donbas, it would now be in Russian hands. Now the battle in the southeast is going to be a meat grinder.
The “Kiev was a feint” notion does not pass the smell test.
To summarize: Too much commitment in the North for a feint and obviously not enough force in the East if that was the main effort. No, the facts support trying to capture the capital was a the key objective and they failed, spectacularly.

They were never on the offensive in Kiew, Speedster. Kiev a diversion so the Russians could clean out your neo-Nazi buddies in Mariupol, wipe out Ukraine's military infrastructure and secure Donbass. The 60,000 plus Ukrainian troops in the east are encircled, don't have the capacity to move and will either surrender or die soon.
