The stated goal was to reunite Kyiv with Russia.

That wasn’t a feint.

The question I have is why did it stall out so near the Belarus border?

"The Russians could have leveled Kiev if the wanted to. They own the air, moron." The Russian's still can't run sorties over Ukraine because the 40 year old planes of the Russian airforce can be picked out of the air by even Ukraine's limited AA:

Here’s how it looks to me.

The Russians managed to seize a sizable swath from Crimea to Russia in the first days of the war. Only Mariupol held and they are doomed. If Ukraine could break the siege they would do so. They don’t, so obviously they can’t.

Otherwise the southeast has been a stalemate with thrust and counter thrust. Izyum was lost, which is significant, but the Ukrainians are not surrounded and every attempt to get past them has failed.

There was a strong effort to take Kiev which cost them an enormous amount of men and equipment. They have been forced to prioritize. The land bridge is more important than Kiev. So those forces will redeploy and it will get hotter in the southeast.

They originally wanted the southwest, Odessa, uniting Transniestria with Russia. They haven’t been able to do it. They will continue to threaten Odessa, it costs them little to keep those Ukrainian units tied down waiting for a attack that isn’t coming. The southeast is the whole game now.

He tried to do that but failed.

They set up the ring of artillery around the city, but that requires thousands of shells per day. The Ukrainians picked off the supply convoys faster than they could be replaced.

They tried by air, but Ukrainian SAMs have prevented the Russian air force from operating over the country in a meaningful way.

A very sensible analysis. The early Russian strategy was to send 1000 men to take and hold 10 square miles of territory. This let the Ukrainians pick and choose where to counter attack. Many of those Russians ended up dead.

Now in Mariupol and Izyum they are sending 10,000 men to take and hold 1 mile of territory. It’s slow and it’s bloody but it is making gains.

Bullshit....there has not yet been an advance into Kiev

And why would he do that

He owns the air

He can do like we do ....just bomb the snot out of them

Why can’t you guys be empirical

Take off the Cold War hat for a sec and really think abou this

Don’t read outlets you normally disdain that you know suddenly believe

You can Google even propaganda sources that show where Russia is deployed

You can see casualty rates and sites

The western reporting is only this

Human rights

Tales of deering do mostly debunked

It’s just so obvious to anyone objective

This is the lesson of this war

Western globalist media can mold even good people into believing their narrative

That’s a danger

I agree. Most likely Russia is going into strangulation mode to prevent Ukrainian counterattack after Donbas and the other decades old conflicts are “readjusted” into Russia.
I am basing my guess on the observation that Russia isn’t suing for peace, and that Zelensky is still alive and able to speak and beg for help. All the press bloviations are media “scoop” whores trying to get eyes on their “reporting”

That’s just it. He doesn’t own the air.

They rolled in expecting the Ukes to fold. Z would load up a plane load of cash and head for Paris. Instead they found themselves in a meat grinder. They can do a lot of damage, and no doubt Ukrainian casualties are high (they don’t talk about their own losses obviously). But even the Russian Ukes are fighting back. That wasn’t part of the prewar calculation. The Uke Russians were supposed to welcome them with open arms. I actually believed that myself. It turns out not to be true.

“So many Freepers take Main Stream Media articles as the truth all of a sudden.”

Kiev is a gigantic city in size. Trying to besiege it directly would be stupid as hell.

Who said Putin even wanted to take Kiev.

I believe nothing about this war or anything else by the main stream media, they have done nothing but lie about everything the past number of years.
\Not sure why so many believe them all of a sudden.

The Russians had no intention of taking Kiev.

Why are you still following the MSM for your information?

Then here’s an honest take for you: after our foreign policy boondoggles over the last two decades, the appetite for another foreign war is gone.

America has no business getting involved in the ethnic enmities between two eastern European countries.
