I do not mind being in the hinterlander.
Question: Is Wheat one of those grains that can be stored in huge quantities and for decades at a time?
I thought we should have grain reserves just for times like these.
Or did we give all our reserves away to other countries?
It looks like the freeloaders from south of the border are making a bad move sneaking into America. We’re already running out of food. How the hell are we going to feed 100 million illegal aliens? This joke is on them. Maybe they can eat their flags.
The White House will be handing out free food vouchers along with their telephones as they come across the border.
Main looks on the decent side of iffy right now.
I planted a 10 X 30 swathe in the garden last Fall, as a cover crop intending to till it in as green manure. If it looks good in the next few weeks, I’ll let it mature instead; otherwise back to Plan-A. Last Frost is mid-late may, so plenty of time to evaluate.
Not aa big harvest by any means, but enough to save for seed, and maybe add a bit to what is already stored.
This year will be heavy on heirloom dry beans & corn.
MINE, not main!
I guess back to adding sawdust or wood pulp.
Some here might think I am kidding. I am not.
They used wood pulp in Germany after WW2. Sawdust was used as an addition to flour in Europe.
My mom tried it once just to see what it was like...Nasty.
Not a good year for a bad year.
Water is even more important.
At least the huge new fleet of electric trucks can deliver the wheat.
“Urban liberals haven’t a clue on what is coming down the pike.”
It’s still in the pipeline, so politicians won’t talk about it yet.
They know the blame is theirs and theirs alone. It’s 99% policy and 1% weather.
Inflation Tsunami in core food and energy is the stuff of revolution.
“Should be okay in the upper midwest.”
The market price for corn and wheat will be the same there as in Lithuania. Or Mexico City. Or Bangkok.
Nuthin wrong with beans and (brown) rice.
And a dozen eggs and a chicken once per week.
Good, healthy eating when combined with fresh fruit and veges.
The Lenten Roses (hellebores) are blooming now and I've seen a couple of vinca early blooms. There's fresh growth on the Bleeding Hearts, so the blooms are maybe three weeks away. I pruned away a lot of dead wood on the lavenders and tender shoots are emerging.
It's probably time to think about a vegetable garden, but you really need a greenhouse to succeed (and keep the deer at bay).
$10 cereal come December.

"Ukraine and Russia account for a third of global wheat and barley exports, which countries in the Middle East, Asia and Africa rely on to feed millions of people who subsist on subsidized bread and bargain noodles. They are also top exporters of other grains and sunflower seed oil used for cooking and food processing."
