Power is still a major issue.
I just now saw and read your article behind the link. Well done.
On sharks, if possible.
Yes to power being one of the more interesting problems to solve for further development.
From what I have seen, the power source has to be massive but apparently the designs have improved.
Solid-state lasers are a huge jump.

Ah, drones. Easy targets. Just slice off a wing. Probably cost effective too since you are not using an expensive missile against an inexpensive drone.
Don’t even need to slice off a piece. Just jam guidance and control. A precise targeted EMP. Cheap.
Damage or interfere with the electronics? Probably easier to do depending on the drone tech. Some low end drones are simple and don’t have a lot of protection. Protection adds weight and cost.
The higher tech versions probably are smart and sensitive electronics is protected. Maybe it will loiter or proceed to the target autonomously. You need to target the avionics control system electronics in order to crash the drone.
Probably requires some knowledge of the drone. Seems like damaging the control surfaces makes more sense. Or just taking it out with a missile is the simplest solution.
