Former President Trump stumped for Ohio Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance on Saturday, while acknowledging during his rally that Vance has “said some bad sh– about me.”
“He’s a guy that said some bad sh– about me, he did,” Trump said. “But, you know what? Every one of the others did also.”
“[In] fact, I went by that standard, I don’t think I would have ever endorsed anybody in the country … They all said bad, but they all came back,” the former president continued. “But I will tell you he was tough … but the others were tough and they all — a lot of them — said some really bad things. And ultimately I put that aside.”
Vance conceded during the rally, “I wasn’t always nice.”
“The president is right. I wasn’t always nice, but the simple fact is, he’s the best president of my lifetime, and he revealed the corruption in this country like nobody else,” he said.
The “Hillbilly Elegy” author has been bashed by super PACs and others for previous comments he made against Trump, including saying, “I’m a never-Trump guy. I never liked him.”
He has also been slammed for previously saying he “might have to hold my nose and vote for Hillary Clinton.”
Vance has already apologized for his past comments, including during a Fox News interview in July 2021.
“Like a lot of people, I criticized Trump back in 2016,” Vance said at the time. “And I ask folks not to judge me based on what I said in 2016, because I’ve been very open that I did say those critical things and I regret them, and I regret being wrong about the guy.

Personally I can't believe all his statements, tweets, appearances etc. is all act to go elected.
I do believe he is sincere.
Why would he call him Hitler and say he might for Hillary if he is good on immigration?
If Vance’s statements, tweets, appearances, etc. are sincere, it shows he’s a flip flopper.
We don’t need another Romney in Congress.
He may have not recognized it in 2016, but his people are the ones Trump fought so hard for. He may not have gotten it then, but I think he gets it now.
I'm also reminded of the clowns who predicted Trump would disregard his "list" and nominate Judge Judy for the Supreme Court. Of course, they were wrong, too, when he set about doing exactly what he said he would do... all his nominees came right off that list.
Yeah, because I had my doubts, too. Trump donated money to Ted Kennedy’s campaign and had been on record as being “pro-choice” until he ran for the Republican nomination. I also didn’t appreciate Trump repeating Dem talking points against Scott Walker. He was only my third choice early on.
In fact, his actions were BETTER than his rhetoric in many cases, and he certainly made the right enemies.
I have never been so glad to be proven wrong about somebody. Many of us learned an awful lot about how messed up things are because Trump completely smoked them out.
Trump is, above all, a realist.
His tweets and social media statements are his real feelings, I believe, but he is willing to go past personal stuff in order to get good candidates elected.

I am very disappointed in the President taking the Lord’s Name in vain during his stump speech. “_ _ _ damn”. I hope someone calls it to his attention. Perhaps a “potty mouth check” is in order.
All that really matters is who does Mitch want to win.
Whoever that is, we want someone else.

Was on a reality show called "The Apprentice", though I have never seen an episode or even a single scene. But I do know the "You're Fired." catchphrase that everyone knew. That caught on, didn't it?
I did have one thing in particular that made me realize just how 'American' Donald Trump might really be, as opposed to him simply polishing his brand to make a buck.
I saw a Larry King Live interview with Trump from 1987, and Trump came across as a genuine conservative to me.
In particular, I remember there was a part of the interview where Trump described the utter disrespect America and Americans were subjected to all over the world and especially in the Middle East where we were viewed as rubes or patsies (I don't remember the exact words, but that is a sense of it.) But it sure did burn inside the Billionaire Donald Trump, and you could see it in his eyes how much he didn't like it.
But the thing is, when he voiced that sentiment, he didn't sound like a guy who came from an uber-rich trust fund nest, he sounded a lot like me and many people like me. He sounded like an American, not some rich celebrity polishing his brand or a foreign stooge of some sort.
So, Trump for President in 2016?
Well, he's an American, I believe that. If he did run, I wouldn't know for sure what to make of his motives, because I don't know much about him, but it is possible he could be a Barnum type showman buffing his own brand. I can't rule that out. But if he was serious about running...well. He certainly made money in a very cutthroat business environment, which I respect. You can't be a total zero if you can come out ahead there. And the guy hates things that I hate about our national and international relationships.
So, yeah. I don't think he would be my first choice, because hear we are, 2014, and the candidates are still unclear, so I might go with someone more mainstream like Cruz. But if Trump looked like he was going to win the nomination and did win it, yes. I could support him. One caveat, he would have to prove to me that he was more interested in being Ronald Reagan than P.T. Barnum. I assume that would be evident fairly quickly if he did nothing at all except strut around on the Presidential stage without accomplishing anything, and I would find out rapidly just how wrong I was.
Heck. How could that in any way be worse than what we have been seeing in the likes of McCain and Romney? Pfft. As I talk this through, yes. I could get behind Trump."
I have been curious about how many people saw it the way I did. Heck, there are people who would get behind a candidate no matter what, and others who will do so hesitatingly or reluctantly. There are always those on all sides.
I hope Trump isn’t becoming a politician now. Deep state and all. He needs to start articulating a vision like he did in 2015/16. I’m not sure he is capable due to the fact that he is a populist and really has no conservative philosophy to back his conservative intuition.
