Kazakh authorities have not openly supported Russia’s invasion and are making moves that could, at least to a certain extent, distance Nur-Sultan from the Kremlin.
Ever since Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his “special military operation” in Ukraine, Kazakhstan has tried to cling to a neutral stance.
Although Nur-Sultan is a member of the Moscow-led Eurasian Union, as well as its Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the energy-rich Central Asian nation has supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and openly stressed that it does not intend to recognize the Russia-backed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
On the other hand, Kazakhstan did not support any anti-Russian resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, nor has it joined anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the United States and its European allies.
However, Timur Suleimenov, deputy chief of the Kazakh presidential office, no doubt surprised Moscow when he publicly announced that Kazakhstan “will not be a tool to circumvent the sanctions on Russia by the US and the EU.
“We are going to abide by the sanctions. Even though we are part of the Economic Union with Russia, Belarus and other countries, we are also part of the international community. Therefore the last thing we want is secondary sanctions of the US and the EU to be applied to Kazakhstan,”
39% of Kazakh citizens support Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine, according to a recent survey.
At the same time, 46% of respondents to the same survey believe that Kazakhstan should remain neutral, and only 6% support Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
Despite scant pro-Ukrainian sentiment, a large-scale pro-Ukrainian rally took place in Kazakhstan’s largest city of Almaty on March 6. Authorities moved quickly to prevent similar actions elsewhere in the country.

Maybe we’ll finally find out the truth about MH370.
In January, Russia sent troops to subdue protestors in Kazakhstan. so Kazakhs would better be wise here if they don’t want to get overthrown.
Just saw a vid about how the Russian oil tankers are turning off their ship transponders because they're delivering oil to the Westerns on the QT [6:39].
Very interesting video. They don’t say what their evidence is, but I would be very surprised if nobody was cheating on the sanctions.
Also they are going to publicly say this to prevent additional sanctions on themselves meanwhile allowing Russian trade to continue. Russia would even coordinate such a move to allow for sanctions evasion. All CSTO members must face the same sanctions or withdraw from that organization to avoid them. Same goes for China by the way.
They don’t have many options. The West is an enemy based on attempted regime change, and China and islamic world are bigger threats than Russia.
Yes, it’s neighbor that is focusing it’s military far away from Kazakhstan.
So many people on FR these days:
* MSM - “nothing but lies”
* Scientists - “Not to be trusted”
* Random unsourced YouTub video. - “This is the truth”
Yeah, healthy skepticism has become unhealthy paranoia.
Renfrew, you're so full of it, like most of the neoconned warmongers slavering for a war they'd have others fight.
WION is an Indian multinational English language news channel headquartered in New Delhi.
It is owned by the Essel Group and is part of the Zee Media network of channels. According to Indian news magazine The Week, the channel covers global news and current affairs from an Indian perspective.
The name WION is an abbreviation for World is One News.
It's a big English language news site out of India.
OF COURSE they'd be all over this story - because the US and the UK in the form of the vile globalist slugs Blinken and Boris Johnson are hammering India to refuse Russian oil shipments, cutting off their noses to spite their own Indian economic faces.
I loved the anchor sneering at the hypocrisy of the Western douchebags after they were caught in the act.
