CMU accused of discrimination after cutting track team

Central Michigan University President Bob Davies held a press conference at CMU on Thursday to address the allegations of racial discrimination regarding the elimination of men's track and field.

Men's track and field has been the first sport eliminated in one to two decades, according to Davies.

Since the elimination of men's track and field, CMU has added men's golf.

Competitive men's track and field costs the university $1 million, competitive golf is half of that, according to Davies.....

Davies went on to list the races of the 30 track and field students, three black, three multiracial, two international, and 22 white.

If universities start eliminating unprofitable sports activity, Transgender (aka Women's) sports is going to take a hit.

Title IX ensures that will never happen.

I’m sure the 1. Mill was better spent on track rather than trans LGBTQ studies, and outreach programs. # fewerthugsruntrack

“Title IX ensures that will never happen.”

I’m no expert on Title IX, but if Men’s track is eliminated then other gender track should be able to be eliminated.

Men’s sports other than football pay a “tax.”
For instance, there are 15 scholarships for women’s basketball but only 12 for men’s.
A number of colleges have a women’s soccer team but no men’s soccer team.

Since the silly Title IX goal is to ensure that men’s and women’s sports have the same number of participants, I’m thinking the whole NCAA fiasco is going to collapse now that athletes in the top revenue-producing sports — football and men’s basketball — are now basically allowed to get paid.

_________

Not for nothing, but actions undertaken by the governing “apparati” of U.S. colleges and universities to comply with Title IX typically look exactly like what CMU just did.

So there’s that.

Yep, and soccer is still a vastly growing sport with unfortunately fewer D1 men’s opportunities today than ten years ago. Sad. All while football continues to be a declining sport based on youth participation.

Actually, during the Obama administration there was talk that Title IX should reflect the number of men and women enrolled in colleges. Thus women should receive 60% of athletic scholarships and spending. Since we are now Obama’s third term, this idea perhaps will be revived.

But of course it will take teams of dedicated biologists to take a census of college enrollment to make sure.
