An American family set off a bomb scare at Israel’s main airport when they showed security inspectors an unexploded shell
that they found while visiting the Golan Heights and had packed for their return trip, authorities said.

Seems like a reasonable thing to do.
After all, once they got home, who would believe their story of finding a bomb, unless they could show it in their (or their friends) living room? (along with the slides of the trip).
Oh well, perhaps the news article will just have to suffice for proof.

The Jewish Press reported that during the family’s Golan Heights trip one of the children found and took a bombshell they were planning to take home as a souvenir. When it was shown at the airport’s luggage check-in, security called for an evacuation of the area.
Possible the kids didn’t tell the parents?

The Israel Airports Authority said a man was hospitalised with injuries sustained as he tried to flee over a baggage carousel.
This speaks highly to the situational awareness over there. IT is constantly in their minds.

As a species we humans produce some dazzling intellects. People with incredible skills and aptitudes in mathematics, science, engineering, art, cooking. Every field of human endeavor has its virtuosos.
And then we have people like this family.
On average, I'm not sure the ratio of Stephen Hawkings to these kinds of "shell collectors" is in favor of the human race surviving.

When my family visited the Verdun battlefield while I was a teenager, we noticed that a guy who was parked near us in the parking lot had a stack of 75mm shells that he had unearthed. Before we left, my mother thoroughly checked to make sure we didn’t smuggle any of them into our car.
