CoBank: Rising meat prices will test consumer demand
DRG News ^ | May 5th, 2022 | By Jody Heemstra

U.S. consumer demand for meat at the retail level remains exceptionally strong despite rising prices caused by increased production costs and supply chain challenges. A new CoBank report says that may change soon. Once the full effect of increased costs of producer price inflation shows up in the retail meat case, demand will get tested.

“Retail meat prices will remain high throughout 2022,” says Brian Earnest, lead animal protein economist with CoBank. “The sharply higher costs for feed, energy, and labor haven’t fully impacted wholesale and retail meat prices, but that will soon change.”

Retail meats up 22% this year so far, and higher input costs are not yet having an impact. They will and price inflation of food will accelerate.

The US/NATO has taken 30% of the world's grain exports off the market (price is the same in the US as Somalia, minus transportation costs), a similar portion of fertilizers and oil/energy.

In order to support sanctions against Russia.

Democrats and Republican neocons say it's "worth it".

What do you say?

I like beans and rice just fine. For a treat, Costco still has their $4.99 roast chicken.

“Lead animal protein economist?” That is a full time job? I purchased pork tenderloin {at Sam’s} 10 or 11 lb. loin for 1.94 a pound...Bought 10 lb. tube of ground chuck for 3.54 ? You buy in bulk and save 1-2 dollars a pound . Most people make to many excuses for not seeking out and understanding the cycles for beef / pork / chicken ...I do not believe that food supply can be matched for what we have across this great republic of ours , anywhere in the world ...If you shop right you can still eat like a king and not break the bank.....IMHO

Bought some all beef steak patties at Costco last week. Enjoying burgers while we can before they're unaffordable!

We have had terrible luck with beef, from our Costco.

I’ve tried asking one of their meat dept workers where the Costco beef comes from, but...I can’t ever find one outside of their glassed in area :-(

Sam’s had some really great looking Prime rib eyes....that said “Product of the USA”....however, that still doesn’t guarantee it is USA cows/beef :- /

Costco became their own producer on chicken to control costs. They have more of a buffer.

I have a steer in one freezer and a hog and two deer in the second one. I occasionally by chicken. Meat prices are not going to affect me for a while.

If you have cattle, you have one of the most liquid assets there is. And a man in the country with a little land for cattle will figure this out and this supply will help control the cost of beef. Now look for the democrats, serving their demonic masters, to try to interfere with this.

“So says any American worth his salt.”

What do you know about being an American?

You wore the uniform of the USA?
