“Frankly a don’t give a rats behind what the commies in Russia want”
As people not involved we have the privilege of not caring what the other side thinks or wants. Having some small exposure to politics I can say that if you need the other party to do, or not do something, then you need to understand what he wants. Previous conflicts; Korea, Vietnam, Syria, Libia, have all been limited partially because they are very far from DC and Moscow. But Ukraine is close enough to home they can probably hear the bigger explosions in the outskirts of Mossow. This conflict has the potential to escalate and escalation can be exponential.
The Soviet dictator wasn’t a real dictator because he had to answer to a Politburo. Khrushchev failed to do so and he was “fired.” Putin is more along the lines of Stalin in that he answers to no one. He’s more like Hitler in that Hitler was the state. Putin is, for all practical purposes, Russia. And, he’s old and likely sick. That’s not a good combination. I sure wish we had people at the helm in the West that could walk up stairs without falling, or talk extemporaneously without constant gaffs.
There’s something called normalcy bias. Bad things have not happened; therefore, they won’t happen. I hope we haven’t been infected by it.
