Russian Gas Flows To Europe Via Ukraine To Stop Wednesday

Russian gas headed to Europe through Ukraine will stop flowing on Wednesday, Ukraine’s Gas Transmission System Operator (GTSOU) said on Tuesday. The flows will stop at 7 a.m. local time after Russia’s occupying forces disrupted gas transit operations in the area.

According to the operator, Ukraine will no longer be able to accept gas transit from Russia via Sokhranivka. The move has the potential to disrupt supplies to Europe if an alternative path isn’t found.

Ukraine has voiced its criticism of Europe’s reliance on Russian gas since Russia invaded, with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky accusing Europe of paying for Russian gas with Ukrainian lives. Ukraine has also previously warned Russia that its occupation in its Luhansk region could disrupt the flow of gas to Europe due to safety concerns.

Sokhranivka is a key entry point on the border between Russia and Ukraine. Nearly one-third of the Russian gas headed through Ukraine goes through Sokhranivka, which is now under force majeure.

The GTSOU said in a statement on Tuesday that it could not operate at its Novopskov gas compressor station in Luhansk due to “the interference of the occupying forces in the technical processes.” Russian forces and separatist fighters have occupied the area since Russia invaded Ukraine.

--- "...like obamas Syria war was also about europey pipelines...."

An excellent observation. Energy shipping via pipelines is wholly a matter of who controls and taxes via transit fees the supply of petroleum. The Middle East pipelines, the Gazprom Nord Stream and of course the shutting down of the Keystone XL have all been about who and how energy is shipped.

The Obama-Biden hand in all this can be tracked simply following the gamesmanship of Victoria Nuland, though many others play their murderous roles.

Tried to tell some in here that Russia taking Ukraine would put it in charge of gas lines to Europe, with which to further blackmail Europe and to cut off when Russia decides to invade the next country.

But many want to pretend Ukraine isn’t a strategically important country, which is silly.

It is hard to overstate the stupidity of your message. What stops Russia from cutting it off WITHOUT the control of Ukraine?:)

The shutoff of Russian oil and gas exports is happening quicker than many thought possible.

“What stops Russia from cutting it off WITHOUT the control of Ukraine?”

Russia’s desperate financial dependence on oil and gas export revenue.

Putin has killed the goose that laid golden eggs.

Customers are leaving at an historic rate, and the collapse in revenues is coming at the Russian Government budget like a speeding freight train.

It wasn’t what I was asking. The goose was dying by itself as evident by long-time NS2 empasse.
Russia is going to replace customers before the customers would be able to replace Russia though.

Gas and oil revenues are up and the ruble is currently higher than before the war.

We’ve been warned about the risks of European reliance on Russian gas transported through pipelines across Ukraine for decades. Until Europe started it’s insane headlong “decarbonization” efforts, it could produce sufficient gas domestically to meet its needs. But much of that production was shut down with predictable consequences.

“Russia is going to replace customers before the customers would be able to replace Russia though.”

How?

The ability to create a customer base is the dream of every corporation.

Germany has begun construction on its first LNG import terminal, and in the meantime, has rented four mobile floating tankers as it scrambles to rid itself of the need for Russian natural gas.

Construction of the LNG import terminal has been fast-tracked, with German Economics Minister Robert Habeck hoping to complete this at “Tesla speed”, in less than a year.

Well, if Ukraine cannot be relied on for sending vital natural gas to Europe, they still have Nordsream 2...snicker.

Of course, the EU would rather their citizens freeze than start up that pipeline.

Looks like China will set the price of Russian oil for China to buy. Just like North Korean coal.

“Construction of the LNG import terminal has been fast-tracked, with German Economics Minister Robert Habeck hoping to complete this at “Tesla speed”, in less than a year.”

Nice to have import terminals, but too bad Cutter won’t agree to expand their LNG production without a 20 YEAR CONTRACT, which makes sense for them, since it’s a huge investment. The problem for the EU is that they think they won’t need gas in 20 years, or anything close to it (LOL), so they won’t agree.

So, no one to fill up the (yet to be built) ships to move the gas to Europe.
