I don’t think that McCain really wanted to win. He didn’t want to be known as the old white guy who prevented the young black guy from being president. McCain called a halt to his campaign so that he could return to DC to manage the financial crisis but did nothing for about 2 weeks. He assigned Nicole Wallace to work with Palin, but she in fact just stabbed her in the back at every turn. Notice how both Schmidt and Wallace are now on MSNBC, that says it all about who they are and were.

Exactly. I remember Rush saying that we had to drag “McCain” over the finishing line. I think the old bugger was also jealous of Palin’s popularity too. In any case, it showed how bad the republicans are and how in bed with the dems they are. Romney was their guy four years later. Thank God for Trump! The man has faults but he’s a million times better that what the republicans have to offer.

It was the year of mutually assured destruction (MAD).

Panama John McCain was the pubbies’ designated loser that year.

Both major parties put forward respective candidates who were not constitutionally-valid natural born citizens.

"McCain called a halt to his campaign so that he could return to DC to manage the financial crisis..."

Obama remained on the campaign trail saying, "I've got a pen and a phone," meaning he can be reached at any time on the campaign trail if he needed to be back in Washington. Many of us here on FR felt that if he wanted to be President so bad, he should have suspended his campaign as well, and headed back to D.C. as McCain did. From what I understand, Obama used the same "I have a pen and a phone" comment in January 2014. The full quote of his comment then was "I will use my pen and phone to take on Congress."

He should have shoved his pen and phone up his ass, and rotated.
