How Germany Is Racing to Sever Dependence on Russian Energy
WSJ ^ | 17-MAY-2022 | Bojan Pancevski

Posted on 05/17/2022 4:58:48 PM PDT by SpeedyInTexas

Days after taking office as Germany’s vice chancellor and economy minister in December, Robert Habeck asked his most senior officials for a detailed assessment of his country’s dependence on Russian energy. The result shocked him.

The country heavily relied on Russian hydrocarbons to power vehicles and factories and heat homes, and there was no contingency plan to secure other supplies, Mr. Habeck said. The government had no viable alternative to Russian imports.

In less than a year, 4 floating LNG terminals will be online. Leases signed.

LOL, that’s great. LNG by ship, at double the cost, to terminals that don’t exist.

Even faster, Germany will build a million windmills, and make even more energy.

In fantasyland.

The 4 floating terminals already exist.

Docking needs to be built for ships. They will be online relatively quickly.

“to terminals that don’t exist”

You must not understand what a floating LNG terminal is. They are already built. 5 currently available for lease. Germany signed deals for 4 of them.

“Mr. Habeck’s new officials had a solution: giant ships known as floating LNG terminals that could be made operational in a matter of months. There are 48 such facilities in the world, and only five were available for lease, according to the government and industry representatives, all owned by Norway’s Höegh LNG and Greece’s Dynagas Ltd. Germany wanted four of them.”

I have a friend you should meet.

His name is Murphy.

They named Murphy’s Law after him.

Nobody thinks about him until after their brilliant plans hit the fans.

“In less than a year, 4 floating LNG terminals will be online. Leases signed.”

Now find the ships to transport it, and the LNG to fill those ships, and the money to pay for all of that...

Germany should sign long term contracts with US for new projects.

Money spent of RuZZian gas can be spent on USA gas. Hahaha.

Where have you been? LNG is already 4 times the cost of pipeline gas, and is expected to triple in price, due to demand.

“money to pay for all”

Germany has the money. They can buy USA LNG and improve the USA trade balance.

Murphy’s law applied when the Germans let themselves get dependent on Russia. That was incredibly imprudent. Actually I think it was the result of Russian payoffs to German politicians. German politicos became dependent on the fruits of Russian corruption.

Now Murphy’s law bites.

They laughed at Trump, right to his face.

For this reason alone I hope and pray that Trump runs again and wins. Just so he can ram this up their smarmy Euroweenie backsides.

No doubt there will be diffucult problems during this transition. But it has to be borne, as removing the dependency on Russia is an absolute strategic necessity.

“AFTER the winter of 2022-23”

Technically, article said 2 online by end of this year and other 2 online in early 2023.

Germany needs to fill their gas storage over the coming months. Gazprom left storage empty heading into this past winter. Which is why German Gov. took over Gazprom storage operations.

“Gazprom had left its German gas storage facility largely empty ahead of last winter. An aide to Mr. Scholz said Berlin had begun contemplating taking over the facility because it suspected the empty tanks were designed to give Mr. Putin extra diplomatic leverage as he prepared to attack Ukraine.”
