‘the possibility that this could motivate the Russians to invade ALL of Ukraine’s southwestern territories’

“If only they had the manpower ... wait they don’t even have the manpower to close one tiny pincer north from Popasna. And now you want them to attack all of the SW?”

I “want them to attack all of the SW”? Hell, no! I didn’t want ANY of this war. The STUPIDITY of the Biden administration allowed this war to come about. And their continuing miscalculations and blundering may lead to further escalations.
I’ve been appalled by the abysmal IGNORANCE OF HISTORY so many are displaying. Folks apparently have ZERO UNDERSTANDING of the importance that Russia places on the Black Sea.
The inception of UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES may be in the process of being conceived. DUMBASSERY ABOUNDS.
No, we just think Russia's dreams of neo-imperial glory need to adjust to its present circumstances and the post WWII rule that you don't change borders in Europe by force.

Really? You imagine you are the only one who has studied Russian history, literature, culture, language and much more here? If you do, you are a fool, an appalling one at that.
“I didn’t want ANY of this war. The STUPIDITY of the Biden administration allowed this war to come about.”
Actually, this war began in 2014 under the Obama administration when Russia fomented a civil war in the Donbas area, and invaded Ukraine at that time (though not in the numbers it employed in this escalation).
“I’ve been appalled by the abysmal IGNORANCE OF HISTORY so many are displaying. Folks apparently have ZERO UNDERSTANDING of the importance that Russia places on the Black Sea.”
And I’m appalled at the ignorance of so many who think the Black Sea is anything other than a large lake with oil and gas opportunities. I say “lake” because that’s what it is if Turkey closes the Bosphorus or someone decides not to allow any Russian ships to transit the strait (it is only about 2500 feet at its narrowest). So, militarily it is not strategic at all for Russia, unless it wants to attack its neighbors (which Russia seems to enjoy doing).
