I watched the all-Black school board of Oceanhilll-Brownsville in Brooklyn fire all the Jewish teachers in 1968, including my dad. I went to a high school with a graduating class of 230. Seven of us were National Merit Scholars and only one got into an Ivy League school, while 4 Blacks SAT scores more than a standard deviation below ours got in. White privilege? My dad grew up in a New York City where there were signs “ No Jews or dogs allowed”, where the Christian Front( an organization endorsed by the Brooklyn Archdiocese) used to protest outside Jewish-owned stores telling people not to buy from Jews, and where it was physically unsafe for Jews to be on the street on Good Friday because the Irish Catholics would assault them. A friend of mine in high school had “White privilege.” His mother was in Treblinka.
Now we live in a country where a certain demographic still can’t compete and we’re dumbing down medical school admissions and even lowering standards on medical boards, endangering patients.
