The pile burn was done in January in snowy conditions. It snowed several times after it was “extinguished”. A “sleeper” fire. Happens in Alaska sometimes, but exceptionally rare in NM. There was a fire near a ranch where I worked. Determined to be lightning caused, but the most recent lightning had been a week earlier. Fire can do weird things.

Roger that. Hot coals can last a long time if not tended to.
